I have been taking my “big”/ fairly new dog to West Crest park fairly regularly, but have felt very guilty for not taking my smaller dog.

He was attacked by another big dog and nearly killed several years ago, then attacked a few more times (not hurt), but has some issues with larger dogs. I’ve been working really hard to help overcome his fear, and he’s been doing very well and showing a lot of progress.

Would anyone with smaller dogs, particularly maybe terrier type dogs be interested in meeting up sometime Saturday (or another day) at the small dog area of West Crest park? He is a 10 year old (about? he was a rescue I adopted almost 7 years ago) Jack Russell terrier, neutered, 17 lbs, and sweet as can be to people and was sweet as can be to dogs until the attacks. He LOVES other terrier type dogs, especially other Jack Russells and Boston terriers. If he ends up enjoying this, I’d like to maybe make a weekly small dog meetup group at the small dog area if there is interest.

I am also there every few days with my “big” dog and hope to eventually be able to take both at the same time.

    Hey guidosmom,

We have a medium/small dog and she loves to play. She is a puggle and may be too rambunctious and young for your Jack, not sure. She’s not aggressive at all, though.

    Cheers,

    Ln

He has actually played with Puggles in the past and has been fine so far with them. How old is she? He is usually good with older puppies, he has no patience for young larger puppies who jump all over him. He becomes a crabby old bossy man. With the right dog, he actually can play really well and has a lot of energy. I just never know who that “right” dog is. My other dog has played a few times with a puggle in the big dog section. Maybe that is your dog. :)

I’d love to give it a try.

    Guidosmom:

If you ever feel comfortable enought that you might want to introduce him to larger dogs, let me know. I know this sounds strange but my dog is incredibly good with little dogs, because when he plays, he just want to be chased. It’s pretty funny to see him and his 2 best “friends” a papillon and a 14 yo Jack Russel, since they just chase him around. The only mishap we’ve ever had is when he accidentally stepped on the JR, but it only caused some yelping.

He’s ~120#, lab/husky mix and it’s pretty funny seeing him and a 5# Papillon drinking from the same waterbowl at the same time.

Don’t make it to Westcrest very often, but he’s the big black dog with white toes and one blue eye.

Holler at me if you see me regardless.

He’s actually good with big dogs he knows and trusts, I think it just takes time for him to trust them. It’s so sad because he used to have no issues with any dogs, until the attack. He had gotten better and I was even taking him to daycare for a while, until he was attacked again. :(

CM – Thanks! Maybe we’ll have to give it a try sometime, but probably better not at the dog park (maybe a yard or something).

I’ve been taking my bigger dog to the dog park at least 3 times a week lately. I usually go in the evenings. She is some kind of mix (we think Irish terrier/wolfhound) and looks like Sandy from the movie Annie. I think she kind of looks like a muppet. I’ll definitely give you a holler if I see your dog. :)

If you ever think he’s up for it. Mine also doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, so it might be good therapy.

Definitely has to be in a yard though. On leash he’s very different.

You’ll definitely see him if we’re there at the same time. He’s quite a character.

    guidosmom,

My puggle is 2. She likes to be chased and likes to entice other dogs to chase her by waiving a stick around nearby, showing off. She does sometimes jump on other dogs playfully. If you give me your email, I’ll let you know the next time we’re going to the dogpark and see if it’s a good time.

ellenater (and CM) – He LOVES to chase. I have to keep him in the small dog area, at least for now. He’s way more tolerant of a smaller dog jumping on him than a large dog. He also is more tolerant of females. My email is:

    MalarkeyMare@gmail.com

    Thanks!
