So the Feds are “following the path” outlined by the SCOTUS when they whacked net neutrality a few months back. Which is to say, they caved and we’ll be living in pay to watch/play/search based on the whims of your monopolistic ISPs.
Nice to see free markets at work, huh? And by “free”, I mean controlled by a very few sanctioned for-profit companies. Yes, that’s what Adam Smith had in mind, right? Right?
The Feds COULD and SHOULD have made internet access a public right and made a single, NON-TIERED playing field for consumers but that just doesn’t feel right to them. They’d rather sit back and wait for complaints about preferential treatment and cost gouging that they’ll “review” to make sure nothing untoward is happening in the marketplace.
I kid you effing not. The same people who signed off on Comcast owning networks are going to pass judgement on a case-by-case basis as to whether something isn’t kosher.
America! The country where gouging the consumer isn’t just encouraged…it’s enforced!

Unfortunately, the GOP is already ahead of us in stomping out alternatives …
If Seattle ever got a decent plan together for municipal broadband, you can bet that the King County Republicans, along with the GOP front organization ALEC, will come out guns ablazin’.

I can’t do it, but you or some like minded friends could start your own internet company with like minded people and find a way to get people cheap internet.

wakefloodParticipantRich, if you bothered to actually read my post, it indicated that this type of appointment (the foxes ruling the henhouse) IS Standard Operating Procedure NOW in DC. There have been points in the not too distant past when that was considered unseemly and NOT appropriate. (The regulators of the financial industry actually PROSECUTED and JAILED a number of the folks involved in the Savings & Loan scandal in the late 80’s early 90’s.)
Ponder “Brownie” and Paulson for Bush and Summers and Geithner for Obama. These types of appts. are now REQUIRED to get them passed through the Senate, as JoB suggests and that’s shameful.
