charlabobParticipantWe ate at the Bohemian for the first time last night and it has definitely moved up to the top of our “When can we go again?” list. http://www.bohemianseattle.com/
The food was amazing — the service friendly but not obtrusive. Everything about it was wonderful and we’re both quite picky.
We shared the raclette with ham (order a small, for two people). I had the “kind of blue” pasta — Bob the carnivore entree. Again, order “small” and get more if you’re still hungry. My pasta and salad would have been enough to share–in fact we did.
Finally we split a bread pudding which was to die for. BP is one of the few things I actually make, so I know good from bad. This was exquisite.
Many of their dishes include cheeses, but I suspect they can modify if you hate or are allergic to cheese. But Go There Now! :-)

HuindekmiParticipantWe stopped by early on Sunday morning for a latte. Mmmmmmmmmm… good! It’s nice to see a place that still makes a real latte with hand pressed espresso and a perfect amount of foam, not the slapped together warm milk, syrup and machine fabricated coffee that you get at most places.
I’ll be back. Can’t wait to try dinner.

squareeyesParticipantDitto on the food and especially that incredible bread pudding – best I’ve ever had. And their wine-by-the-glass prices are surprising at $4-$6 a glass. If they keep the price that low they’re guaranteeing a loyal following with that alone.

cjboffoliParticipantMan, I’m really puzzled by all of these positive reviews. We went a while back and (as super nice at the owners were) it was a disappointment on all counts. Maybe we went too early in their run and have all of the kinks worked out now.

SueParticipantI may have missed it in an earlier discussion, but what is the general pricing there? Their menu is posted online, but sans prices.

hammerheadParticipantIt was ok the waiter WAS GREAT! He even went out to get a book out of his car to tell us what capers were. YES I know I don’t know what a caper is. Anyway, I had the raclette dish with ham. It was ok if I didn’t have to smell the cheese.

LisaMParticipantI really like the Bohemian for what it is – a neighborhood place that is reasonably priced and offer “noshes” rather than a full meal deal.
The $4 Bohemian Highway cab is the best deal in town!
What I recommend: tapenade dips, garnet fries, meatballs, the wine above and the sangria.
Enjoy!

cjboffoliParticipantLisaM: I’m with you on the garnet fries but we found the sangria horribly bitter. I guess I’m finding that the quality of West Seattle restaurant experiences can vary wildly. I had two bad Beato meals before an amazing one just before they closed. And Ama Ama disappointed me with an ill-conceived entree one night but on a subsequent visit blew me away with their baby grilled octopus and duck egg on truffled potatoes. So I’ve learned it is worth giving places a second and third chance.

charlabobParticipantI’m sure some of it is varied quality and some of it is individual taste. The Bob and I had a number of excellent meals at Beato — we went closing week (with friends who hadn’t been before) and were very disappointed. The food was overcooked and lacked any special taste. I actually suspected they were using up ingredients and left them out as they ran out. It just wasn’t up to our previous experiences.
I used to fume at restaurant critics and other foodies whose opinions differed from mine — then I realized that sometimes it was just they had different ideas of what was good.
Admittedly some things are just universally bad–but some people probably even like bland food with too much salt :-)

HuindekmiParticipantExperiences do differ. We had gone to Beato a few times and the only dish that stood out was the ox-tail ragout. Everything else was just so-so to our taste.
Then we went closing week, tried the new menu and were extremely pleased. From the soup to the entrees to the dessert – everything was great! On another night, or if you have different tastes, you may get a different result.

GAnativeParticipantWe went to The Bohemian last night for our anniversary and had a fabulous time! We decided not to do dinner but apps and drinks at a few different places so we started downtown and ended close to home.
The crabcake and salad appetizer was delicious and the bartender (Lynn) got us to try some drinks we had never had and they were great!
Right now they are offering a drink called La Sofia and the full cost of the drink goes to help Sofia Goff (Cafe Revo) and her children. Drop in and have one or two…

BobLoblawParticipantFirst time for us last night. Very filling and unique (for us) foods, unbelievable dessert, nice drink menu. Looking forward to going back.

c@lbobMemberIt seems that Bohemian patrons have been “getting” what is good about this neighborhood eatery.
Their crab cakes. If you don’t like them, you don’t like crab.
The red pepper soup is outstanding.
The iron skillet dishes are available with three different cheeses, if one does not like raclette, maybe another selection is in order.
We were there Friday night (10/29/2010), and the corn bacon & chowder was delicious, the crab cakes were the normal outstanding, and the drinks were powerful.
I was glad to see that the place was packed. There are evidently enough people who agree with me, so I will stop worrying about their survival. After surviving for two years, Bohemian will be there for me.
Their spiced mixed nuts are a great booze nosh, too.
