MousePotatoMemberTried them for the first time today. FANTASTIC BBQ…. My wife had the ribs and I had the quarter chicken. VERY good stuff. I tend to like my food spicy and thought I might try the ‘hot’ version but a customer in front of me made me think the ‘medium’ might be enough. He ordered his meal with the ‘hot’ sauce and the cashier paused for a minute before asking very slowly, “Are you SURE?”.
The medium ended up being plenty spicy for me. Next time I might even go with the mild. My wife is a spice wimp and had no problem with the mild sauce so they can clearly soften the blow or let you hurt yourself if that’s your choice.
The meat was perfect. It was almost difficult to get a bite on a fork because it was so tender and falling apart.
From the crowd in the lobby it looks like they will be here for a while.
I hope so….

Garden_nymphMemberAs a big fan of pork ribs I must add to this rave for Jones BBQ. AMAZING! The ribs were smoky, moist, meaty, tender and the sauce was
F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C! Flavorful with just the right amount of spice. They were delicious and I will be back! What a great addition to West Seattle. I said it to my ribs and say it now to Jones BBQ, “Welcome HOME!”

MousePotatoMember….And if they start serving squirrel-kabobs or chupacabra brisket I think I’ll pitch a tent out front and just live there….
July 3, 2010 at 5:49 am #698276
ellenaterMembermmmmm can’t wait to try it. We need good BBQ in WS. Yums.
July 3, 2010 at 5:59 am #698277
celeste17ParticipantMom and I had the half chicken with two sides and it was great. My only complaint was that we tried the peach cobbler and it wasn’t think enough in the sauce for the fruit. We will try a slice of sweet potato pie next time.

HuindekmiParticipantIt was a bit of a wait, due to fairly long lines, but the wait was worth it. Thumbs up to the brisket, the hot links and the collard greens. The food was being made on site (unlike the previous occupants of that space) and they had plenty of staff to prepare the food and handle the customers. Everyone was friendly and everything looked clean.
Word of note: they are a cash only joint right now. Come prepared.

dawsonctParticipantYep, every one of their restaurants since the first one has been a very clean and good-looking space. What is best is that their quality has remained the same. I still remember fondly their first location on ML King Way with the smoker and wood-pile backed up against the building, the kitchen/counter and entrance so tight and filled with humanity that it usually spilled out the door. Very much fit the deep-South BBQ shack stereotype. I literally stomped on my brakes and made a dangerous maneuver into the parking lot the first time I saw (and smelled) the place. They have since become rather familiar with my face, and my family has used them a couple of times for catering, which I highly recommend.

This is great! Jones BBQ, The Beer Junction, I’m working over here now, ALMOST no reason to leave. But then I get a craving for TACO TRUCK FOOD, which I apparently won’t see along Fauntleroy in MY lifetime

WorldCitizenParticipantAlways loved this place since the first time. Glad they are in west Seattle. Wish they could find a way to warm up their meat without the microwave. Seems like a waste to go through all the trouble slow cooking that beautiful
Meat only to throw it in one of those rubberizers. That’s right, I ordered The rib tip basket and the woman in back tossed them in a microwave after chopping them up. Not as tender as normal but delicious tasting none the less.

dawsonctParticipantMicrowaves are good for melting chocolate, warming the last cup of coffee in the french press, and disinfecting egg shells before they go in the worm bin.
Those are the only things I could think of.
July 5, 2010 at 3:57 am #698282
ellenaterMemberHey there’s supposed to be a killer taco truck on Delridge by Home Depot. Just sayin’…
July 5, 2010 at 4:55 am #698283
Garden_nymphMemberEllenater, When, my husband has been trying to find one!
Dawsonct- I didn’t know I was supposed to be microwaving my egg shells before throwing them in the worm bin! How long do they need to be in for?
Wasn’t it Jone’s BBQ that used to smoke turkeys for Thanksgiving?
July 5, 2010 at 5:43 am #698284
Admiral935ParticipantKau Kau will smoke your bird, afaik
July 5, 2010 at 6:01 am #698285
WorldCitizenParticipantYeah, that taco truck is the best Mexican food in West Seattle…maybe the whole city.
July 5, 2010 at 6:10 am #698286
Garden_nymphMemberDoes anyone know their schedule and route?
July 5, 2010 at 6:12 am #698287
JanSParticipantGarden_nymph…the taco truck is there a lot…by Tug Tavern – er..Inn..across from Home Depot on the way up to Highpoint.
July 5, 2010 at 6:21 am #698288
dawsonctParticipantNot overly impressed by the HD taco truck. I’ve been twice, the meat selection is limited (no lengua? No cabeza? No chivo? Why bother?), I’ll give them another chance, but they don’t hold a candle to Tacos Maestro on Pac. Highway S.
I COULD walk to the promised one on Fauntleroy, if Tacos Bravo EVER get their crap together.

Worms are susceptible to salmonella; eggs will occasionally carry salmonella. I’ve heard 2 minutes on high is enough, and my worms are very much alive and wriggling. I can’t be positive they have anything to do with each other.

Cyril’s Seattle Super Smoke used to be in the S. Lander location where Jones is now. I can still taste that dee-licious smoked turkey they would make.
I know Willy’s Taste of Soul fries turkey, seems like I recall he also smokes them.
July 5, 2010 at 6:24 am #698289
inactiveMemberThe taco truck Fondita on 15th in WC is to me, for some reason I don’t know, better than the HD truck tacos
And then there’s El Paisano’s taco’s. You can sit down inside if it’s raining (often critical in decision making). They are just simple and so good. I highly recommend the carnitas and asada. OMG. $1.50 each?!? A little protein pick-me-up.
And have a glass of horchata to go with if the barrel is full.
Uh oh.
Controversy.
Now I’ve gone and done it.
:]
What? We WERE talking about tacos, right? ;) Am I on the wrong thread again?
July 5, 2010 at 6:50 am #698290
dawsonctParticipantMy bad! Going off on tangents is one of my hallmarks, especially when talking about food.
Food, food, glorious food!
With bacon!
July 5, 2010 at 7:02 am #698291
pigeonmomParticipantA friend gets lengua tacos at the truck across from Home Depot. Maybe they were out when you went?
July 5, 2010 at 7:23 am #698292
Garden_nymphMemberOK, back to the topic of Jones BBQ. I hope they are open tomorrow. All the talk has made me want MORE of their tasty ribs!
July 5, 2010 at 6:43 pm #698293
dawsonctParticipantThat’s the prob both times PM, they didn’t have the meats on the menu.
Aside from that, the spicing and salsas were rather ordinary. Acceptable in a pinch, but…
—
But JONES BBQ on the other hand, is MORE than acceptable ALWAYS!!!
Let’s all resolve to eat at Jones at least once this month!
Vegetarians, get yourselves some sweet potato pie, or peach cobbler.
July 6, 2010 at 12:32 am #698294
Garden_nymphMemberWe went back today and I am happy to report, my ribs were as delicious as the first time! It’s not a fluke folks, Jones BBQ makes great BBQ!
Dasonct- we’re doing our best to keep them in business!
July 6, 2010 at 1:07 am #698295
MargLMemberYum! Well that answers my questions of “Are they open today?” and “What’s for dinner?”
—
Edit: Yes! Yum! Got the Tailgate Special with beans and potato salad. Fed our family of 3 with meat leftover. Nice sweet/tangy sauce and moist chicken and ribs!
July 7, 2010 at 1:45 am #698296
cjboffoliParticipantI finally got over to Jones BBQ in the Triangle today. And while it wasn’t the best BBQ I’ve ever had, I guess I could co-sign the RAVE. Their BBQ could hold its own against any of the tin roof, sugar shacks where I’ve had BBQ across the South.
I decided to try the chicken and the brisket on this visit reserve the ribs for a future visit. This is definitely BBQ that is for sauce fans as there was no shortage of it. I went for the mild because I’m not really a caliente kinda dude. So heat lovers might rave about the sauce more than I will. But it did have a nice balance of savory and sweet with just enough smoke. The meat was really perfectly cooked, with that tender, falling-off-the-bone quality. The brisket especially was seasoned expertly. Usually when it comes to BBQ it is all about the meat but the sides were actually a nice surprise. The beans had a fresh taste and light color. The collards were especially good. Actually, I’d put them up there with some of the best I’ve had. They were out of cornbread so I didn’t get to try that. And no hush puppies on the menu! What’s up with that?! Also no fried okra at the West Seattle location which they really need to remedy. It would be a really nice touch to see sweet tea offered as well. I’ve heard of uneven service at some of the other Jones BBQ locations but I have to say that the young woman working the counter earlier this evening was a sweetheart. And she was really patient as I scrutinized the menu.
Definitely worth a trip back for the ribs. If they’d we willing to add anything from my wish list above I just might be in there all the time.

pigeonmomParticipant*drool* ..look at that smoke line..
