hollyplaceParticipantI have had sweet potato fries other places in West Seattle – and some are good and some are just okay. But we went to Circa last night for dinner and they were AMAZING!! The aioli that went with them was perfect. Who knew they could be SO delish!

christopherboffoliParticipantIt is REALLY hard to do sweet potato fries right as there is something about them that so wants to be limp and soggy. Were the fries crispy at Circa?

IrukandjiParticipantI’d like to know how they compare to the SPFs at The Bohemian. Christopher, report back ASAP.

hollyplaceParticipantThey were crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside – not soggy at all. I have had the fries at the Bohemian – and they are good. I am telling you, these were great! Maybe it was whoever was in charge of the fryer. In the name of research, I will go back to confirm that they really are as fabulous as they were the other night :)

dtownMemberNice, I’ll have to try them sometime!
Best I’ve ever had was at the Beunos Aires Grill downtown….amazing sp fries!

christopherboffoliParticipantI’ve actually had the “Garnet fries” at the Bohemian. But those aren’t technically sweet potatoes. They’re yams (similar but botanically very different) which may have been the secret to why they too were crispy and not soggy.
Not sure if they still do, but at the time I had them The Bohemian provided a garlicky aioli and a smoky ketchup, which were good. But then they also served a lavendar honey which, with not enough salt on the fries, was just sweet on top of sweet. And I thought it was weird that they offered a choice of one dipping sauce or all three for a $1 more. I’d say just either tack on the extra dollar and automatically serve all three, or make up your mind and serve one.

hollyplaceParticipantI am of the belief that lavender belongs in a flower bed. Not in food, lotion or soap. I know people think differently, but when it is in food all I think is “why does my food taste like soap/lotion?”

christopherboffoliParticipanthollyplace: I think I could co-sign that. Can’t say I’ve ever been blown away by lavender as a flavor profile in any food.

inactiveMemberOh, and what about baked sweet potato chips? That’s how I do ’em. Tend to be uber crispy, but I enjoy them very much. The dog loves ’em them too.
Long live yams and sweet pataters.

voodooMemberGlad to hear about Circa’s sweet potato fries – they sound right up my alley!
I ordered sweet potato fries at a BBQ joint up north on Lake City Way, and was dismayed to find they totally ruined them by putting powdered sugar on top! They tasted more like a dessert that a 4-year-old would like than a savory side.

voodooMemberFinally went in to Circa tonight – for the first time, after having lived on this lovely peninsula for 5 years! It was a full house so we stepped out of our usual comfort zone to sit at the bar.
Wow! What a great time we had! The stranger next to us (gasp!) was friendly and warm, as was the barkeep and everyone we encountered. Great neighborly vibe. We instantly felt like we belonged.
And, to the point of this thread – the sweet potato fries. With those offered, I am certain I will never try another side there. Excellent burger, perfectly cooked, nice beer selection.
My only question is why hadn’t we been there yet? Honestly, partly because we were led by their logo to think it was a chi-chi place. It wasn’t until I saw “Neighborhood Alehouse” in small letters that my curiosity piqued. Thanks for the prod!

TDeParticipantI have to have Circa’s steak salad and sweet potato fries at least once a month or life just isn’t right with me. Once a week is actually better!

hollyplaceParticipantThe burger was good, but I will have to try the steak salad next time.
