I don’t want to do this myself. Any good referrals for exterminators that trap not poison?

    Thanks

No, but we bought a electronic Rat Zapper from McLendons (a little spendy at about $40, but well worth it), and the very first one we got was the BIG MOTHER. It was so big it almost didn’t fit inside. Clean, easy and it claims, more humane.

    I highly recommend

He did a great job! First an inspection, covering openings, and setting traps, followed by 2 more trips checking the traps came in under $280 including tax.

Sure they’re rats, not squirrels? Squirrels like attics

rats, squirrels, no matter. I don’t want them there. they have made a mess!!! I am going to have to have the entire attic cleaned and all the insulation replaced as well as the ceiling of the living room. when they got in they let rain get in and it soaked through. UGH. I am not a happy camper.

    Kayla,

Make sure the exterminator also finds out how they are getting into your attic – otherwise the problem will continue and repairs will be for nothing. Rats can enter a home through quarter sized openings.

fill a large trash can with water up to the top. leave about 6ins from lip. float dog food on top. Rats will jump in to get their “grill on” and will drowned. Just fish out in the morning and toss in recycle.

We had rats in our attic for a while and then ended up with rodent mites in our house!! This was awful and so disgusting I will not go into details but my advice to you is to get them out ASAP!! The company we used is United Pest Solutions. They did the following work for us:

    1) Replaced our attic insulation

    2) Cleaned out our attic

    3) Eliminated any enterance points

    4) sprayed for the mites

We are still in touch with them as I signed up for their quarterly service. They did a fantastic job, were very knowledgeable, professional, and helped to calm down a very freaked out mom (due to the mites, not the rats!!)
