hpmoreMemberWhy is this store never open? I have stopped by twice now, and both times it is CLOSED!! I have been there during their store hours, but doors are locked. So frustrating. Kind of looks like the store is pretty empty, maybe they are closing for good? Don’t recommend making a special trip to this store, out of the way and who knows if they will be open??

DianeParticipantI visited this store a couple months ago and the owner was very kind; she had just remodeled the inside, and she was due to give birth very soon, so…….I would be shocked if the store is closing, may be more related to finding help for the store, with a new baby????

WSBKeymasterI have the owner’s e-mail address somewhere, will write to check. They have been active in the community during their relatively short time in business, fwiw, participating in some charity drives. Any small business is certainly subject to sudden changes … we’ve learned that after going into business last year ourselves. – TR

OliverMemberI hope they are not closing! I think they are worth the “special” trip. They have a great selection of clothes and other maternity needs. You could always try calling ahead.

WSBKeymasterHere’s what I received from the store’s owner after e-mailing her:
>>My name is Rosa Lim and I am the owner of On the Way Maternity. It is true that I did recently have a baby 8 wks ago. There were a few times that I did have false alarms with the pregnancy. I knew, and my doctor also advised me that I would be delivering early. We tried medications to keep her in the oven as long as we could. On the days of the false alarms, I had to race out of the store so that I could get to the hospital.
As for yesterday, September 23rd… I am truly sorry. I received a call from my temporary employee at 9:55. Well, the store opens at 10:00. She informed me that she wasn’t feeling well. At that point, I had to get both kids packed up and on the road for the 45 minute commute. In the meantime, I called my girlfriend to have her post a sign on the door to let customers know that we will be open at 12:00. This is when she saw a customer waiting in the car, or at the door(not sure).
This is not in anyway to make excuses. I just wanted to clear a few things up. I too, would be upset if each time I went to a store they were closed.
I apologize to all of the customers who happened to stop by the store on any of these days. Being a small business owner, I was trying to take on all of the responsibilities on my own and it began to get a bit tough. I hired a great employee who is out of town until November 1st and can’t wait until she is back. I’m sure other business owners out there have had the unfortunate experience of hiring an unreliable employee. The reason I quit my previous job to take this on was to be at home with the kids more. It looks like I won’t be lightening my load all that much. Just know that there will be a change in staff to take effect immediately.
As for the store closing….that is a rumor that has been swirling for a while. It seems everytime I have a huge sale, people assume that my doors are closing. This happened earlier in the year also. I had a sale to clear out old merchandise and that is all. I’m not planning on going anywhere anytime soon. The store is here to stay and I hope the customer who contacted you will give us another chance.
I always put all that I can into the store when I am here and try to give customers the best customer service that I know how. I absolutely love being in West Seattle and thank everyone who supports small businesses. The customers that have been here have been absolutely wonderful!<<
(again, that was e-mailed by Rosa Lim, owner of On the Way Maternity, when I wrote to ask her the questions/concerns posed in this thread)
