nanaofechoMemberWhy is it acceptable to broadcast so called “music” blaring onto Harbor Ave SW every evening? We residents don’t like having your selection of “music” being forced into our ears. I’m as offended by the Shell Pioneer drilling platform as anyone, but that ridiculous barge out in front of our home, along with that over the top loud “music” is an extreme example of noise pollution!

JanSParticipanthave you spoken to anyone about it? While it’s not a business, where you are obliged to contact management before posting a rant, there is also a way to contact this group….and…the city..:)

DuskyvioletParticipantJan – I think the complaint is against the Shell No group and not against Foss or the Port. The USCG gave Shell No 30 days till they have to move out but for all those they are annoying I hope it’s sooner.
As they are not an officially organized group I’m not sure who but the open airwaves that Nana could complain to.

WSBKeymasterThe jurisdiction over this area is (a) Coast Guard permitted the barge (b) Seattle Police supposedly can police noise. Friday night’s concert was an event with a city special-events permit, per the city Special Events calendar, and it was organized by the Vashon-based advocacy group Backbone Campaign. They had a twitter exchange with someone who pleaded for them to keep it down and they said they would. The website is here and might have direct contact info if you haven’t already found it:
Just noticed they seem to have another event planned for Friday. Of course, the Polar Pioneer could be gone by then – its departure window has been reported to open around June 10th (Wednesday).

CO2isPlantFoodParticipantAh yes, the eco facists !
For such people, the crusade against global warming makes a convenient foil in arguing against
anything that might bring industrial or any other kind of middle-wage growth to the state.
Greens here often speak movingly about the earth but also about their personal redemption.
They have engaged a legal and regulatory process that provides the wealthy and their progeny an
opportunity to act out their desire to make a difference, often without real concern for the outcome.
Environmentalism becomes a theater in which the privileged act out their narcissism. Hypocrisy is
very typical of collectivists. They don’t understand individual responsibility, so they don’t feel any shame for how they behave.
“The followers of a mass movement see themselves on the march with drums beating and colors flying.
They are participators in a soul-stirring drama played to a vast audience – generations gone and
generations yet to come. They are made to feel they are not their real selves but actors playing a role, and their doing a ‘performance’, rather than as the real thing.”

grogParticipantAt one time Elvis, the Beatles and the Stones were all considered “noise”, and look at them now.
Live and let live, but sorry you’re temporarily having to deal with it.

JeannieParticipantGrog (aptly named), it’s really tasteless to make snide remarks (humor????) about Biden. Yes, he’s not the typical phony hypocrite we see all too often in politics, but he recently lost his son, Beau, to brain cancer. Beau was only 46 and had served his country with true patriotism. Joe Biden also has a populist approach that has earned him the loyalty of his constituents in Delaware for decades. Joe Biden has committed some gaffes, but he’s no dummy. And I’ll take a few gaffes over the antics of Hastert, etc. any day.
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I’m tired of the tired old jokes.
