Two of my neighbors are in the habit of running loud power tools (pressure washer, leaf blower, etc.) for HOURS nonstop at a stretch. I wonder if they might be simply letting the thing run while they go inside for lunch or take care of a couple of other things?

I don’t mind too much having to hear the noise for occasional 1-2 hour periods during the day, or for a few days if needed on a rare basis for a big remodeling project or something. But your hours of continuous loud noise, for days in a row, regularly, makes it really hard to enjoy spending time outside in this lovely weather. (Yes, we’ve talked to one neighbor about this twice, but he continues the noise.)

Please folks, turn the engine off when you’re not actively using it. People for blocks around you will thank you.

I have to ask…are you in the Admiral District near Adm. Safeway?

FWIW, most power tools like pressure washers can’t be left to run unattended; you have to keep your finger on the trigger or whatever activates the tool. A pressure washer just chugging along without washing would be fairly quiet. This makes me wonder whether it’s either a huge construction/cleaning project, in which case, I hope for you that it’s over soon, or maybe it’s some other kind of noise-making device.

@JanS – No, I’m not in the Admiral area. Sounds like there’s a lot of power-tool noise around WS these days!

@935 – I didn’t say anything about business hours. A couple of weeks ago one neighbor began the leaf blower at 8 am on a Sunday morning and ran it nonstop till early afternoon. I know that (1) landscape/constructions businesses need to run their tools during weekdays, and (2) homeowners often don’t have time to run their tools for home projects until weekends. All understandable…but when that means loud noise most of every day of the week, you can perhaps see why I’d like a quiet stretch!

And PangolinPie, thanks for the info about pressure washers. And your good wishes as well!
