charlabobParticipantOne of (if not the) greatest American actors of his (our?) generation. Heroin overdose — clean and sober for 23 years and then .. RI whatever one rests in these days.

anonymeParticipantNot long ago, I was downtown walking up 1st Ave near the Market about 9 am. I glanced over, and there was a young man in the process of shooting up, the needle buried in his arm. I worked downtown for decades, including the Market area, and lived in Belltown. I thought I’d seen just about everything, but I’d never seen heroin use right out on the street like that before.

kgdlgParticipantheroin more than any other drug (in my opinion) steals the soul of people away. i feel so sad for hoffman’s family – to leave three little kids – just tells you how far gone he must have been. absolutely tragic.

singularnameParticipantI wish that for every celebrity death mainstream media spends hours on analyzing, equal time would be given to No-Name Schmo who died on the same day of the same thing. Hoffman was awesome and all of my condolences, but all the other Schmos were awesome, too.

kgdlgParticipantI think any heroin death is tragic. The CHS blog often writes about this epidemic in the neighborhood context. I have heard that all medics on Cap Hill have the drug with them at all times now that brings people back from an OD because overdoses are so prevalent these days.
But let’s be clear, Hoffman was perhaps one of the beat actors of his generation. Maybe THE best. That is a tragic loss that deserves mourning. I am sad for his family and loves ones. It is a horrible way to lose people.
