About the Job:
Searching for part-time Basketball and Volleyball coaches with evening and weekend availability to coach youth athletics in West Seattle. Responsibilities include but are not limited to coaching and instructing players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities. Models’ nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

We are looking for applicants that are passionate about youth athlete’s development physically and emotionally, positive delivery to young people and is willing to speak life into them, high ceiling toward performance expectations.

Job Details:
Responsibilities and requirements of the job:
– Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to
participate in the sport.
– Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions.
– Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual
and team development.
– Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations,
equipment, and techniques of the sport.
– Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or
team improvement.
– Establishes and maintains standards of athlete behavior and always provides proper supervision
of athletes.
– Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
– Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
– Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and
spectators.
– Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
– Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of
equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
– Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
– Assist in maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data, participation records, equipment
inventory, and other related records.
– Ability to commute all around West Seattle in the evening and on weekends.
– Ability to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination if hired.

Preferred qualifications include:
– Extensive coaching experience in sport (Basketball or Volleyball).
– Experience in mentoring student-athletes.
– Excellent relational skills with both student athletes and their parents.
– Effective verbal and written communication skills
– Provide intentional development of athletes’ character
– Demonstrate excellent leadership on and off the court
– Knowledge of current sport rule requirements (Basketball or Volleyball)
– Strong in conflict resolution, with outcomes that encourages forward progression.

Physical demands:
– Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time
– Hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone
– Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly
– Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
– To bend, stoop, sit on the floor, to climb stairs, walk and to reach overhead

Duties are normally preformed in a gym environment or outdoors on a sand/grass/blacktop court. Duties may be performed away from club.

Travel is required for some teams, this may include within the city, region, or nationally as needed for tournaments and competitions.
