villagegreenMemberI’ve been missing Ama Ama lately? Anyone know of a great happy hour spot (doesn’t have to be in West Seattle). I’ve been to the Brooklyn downtown. They’re prices start our really low and then increase slightly every half-hour or so. Unfortunately, not working downtown, I rarely make it there in time to get the great deal. Anyone want to share their favorite spot? Thanks!

villagegreenMemberOkay, I apologize for the egregious typos–a question mark in the first sentence and ‘they’re’ instead of ‘their’! And I wasn’t even drunk (yet). But come on, nobody here has a favorite oyster bar?! Forget happy hours then, anywhere with decently priced oysters will do. I guess with all this silence no wonder Ama Ama didn’t survive!

biankatParticipantI’m not familiar with Oysters in WS (maybe Salty’s??), but I recently had my first oyster experience at The Walrus & The Carpenter in Ballard. Lovely place, large oyster selection, small plates atmosphere.

jwwsParticipantElliotts or the Brooklyn downtown. If you want to buy and shuck yourself Seattle Fish Co on California has 12 for $4.50 brought in fresh from a local Hood Canal farm they own (they are larger but bright and briny – according to hubby – I prefer smaller oysters). If you like a selection of oysters to buy try Taylor Shellfish Farm – they are at some farmers markets and I think they have a downtown location now but we usually drive up Chuckanut Drive to their retail outlet and buy a bunch of oysters – they also have great mussels and Dungeness crabs.

westseagalMemberMcCormick & Schmicks on 4th & Columbia (on the ground floor of the Columbia Tower Center) used to have an oyster bar that looked very yummy. Haven’t been there in a while though (since I no longer work downtown either) so can’t vouch that they still do. I would presume so – and even if they don’t, they have some of the best happy hour food specials around!

KeithMemberBlueacre Seafood downtown has an excellent Happy Hour with very inexpensive, top quality oysters. Their Rainier beer battered fish & chips are also really good. http://blueacreseafood.com/
Cutter’s right by Pike Place Market on Western also has a good happy hour, and I think it still includes/features oysters. Right across the street is Tom Douglas’ newish Seatown Snackbar which has a great selection of oysters, smoked fish and other small bites. Not sure about Happy Hour offerings.
Closer to to home, Salty’s has shucked oysters on their Happy Hour menu for $2 a pop, and a lot of other options as well. I only go there when the weather is nice because I find the bar area unattractive and uncomfortable.
@jwws the new Taylor Shellfish storefront is on Capitol Hill, on Melrose between Pike & Pine. Haven’t checked it out yet; heard they also sell chowders and a few other prepared items.
