I think VA will be are bellwether.

If it goes Romney – especially with an “early” call and 5%+ margin of victory – then it might be a long night because it will prove pollsters were way off. NH might serve this purpose as well – if she goes red, look out.

Your third party candidate theory makes sense, ala Florida 2000. and the entire Nation in 1994.

…how do you quote like that?

Okay, so I may fully lose my lefty lib credentials, and be shunned by my like-thinking friends here for helping out the “other side” ;-)

[blockquote cite=]…how do you quote like that?[/blockquote]

Smitty, what you want to do is replace the flat/square brackets that I used above, with the pointy lesser than/greater than brackets; < >

    [begin sidetrack into posting code]

smitty: what mike said about replacing [ and ] with < and >. and you can actually eliminate the word “cite.”

    [blockquote] quoted text [/blockquote]

long ago, i asked DP if he has a link to the code used by WSB forums, because he does all sorts of nifty things with text here. for example, you can not only blockquote and have emphasized/italic and strong/bold text, you can also do ordered and unordered lists – with funky characters instead of plain old bullets. but he never answered me.

there used to be a link at the bottom of the page that said, “powered by wordpress” (blog/comment form software) or somesuch. but looking at wordpress’s web site to find end-user code for posting isn’t easy and yields few comprehensive, easy-to-read results.

it should also be noted that the comments sections on the front page work the same way – except they use <b> text </b> for bold and <i> text </i> for italic, whereas the forums use “strong” for bold and “em” for italic.

i’m going to flag this to see if TR or patrick has a link to the blog software that they use, or if they know of an online compendium of formatting codes.

The forum software is bbPress. I don’t know the forum code myself … I prefer to just write plain text. All I can tell you is that you can put photos in using

carat imc src = open quote URL close quote slash close-carat

Some html doesn’t take in bbPress and I don’t know why. For example, you can use the image code but it won’t recognize adding a fixed width so that for example you could post a 700-pixel photo with a notation narrowing it to 500 pixels (the maximum that’ll fit well into the WSB content column).

“Stop inviting us in. When you put those issues up to the general public via tax dollars.. we are invited.”

the same tax dollars that you say invited you into women’s personal medical decisions funds your prostate exams and viagra.

do we have your permission to weigh in on your personal medical options since we “fund” them?

I am thinking you would find that an intrusion on your privacy.

    I know we do.

    so Kootch..

“Senate, looks to stay democratic.. but we have a plan for that… right out of the Wisconsin playbook…… recall elections for democratic senators who managed to not hit this election cycle. Citizens United is far from over. Those PAC’s still have wads of cash. Obama carried 28 states last election. Any Democratic Senator in a red state is going to be at risk.”

even if the nation’s people speak.. your side threatens to impede their ability to govern?

I am so glad you have enough confidence to show your party’s true colors publicly. It’s what i like best about the Republican mouthpieces right now.. they have no shame at all.

Please.. go on doing a stellar job of showing us just what the outside untraceable money that has been injected into this election is doing to our democracy.

Even if the citizens vote for them.. big money doesn’t intend to stop there.. they will simply purchase harassment to stop the elected officials of this nation from doing their job?

    Whoa nelly!

you might stop a moment to ask yourself just what you are creating bucko.

    that’s not the American way.

thanks for pointing out the cherry picking going on in using Nate Silver’s predictions.

honestly, i don’t have the energy to source and refute all of the cherry picking crap any more.

it’s a good thing there are so many like you who post here who do. It makes the heavy lifting easier on all of us.

hubby pointed out this morning that a well written argument is not the same as a well reasoned one.

A well reasoned one takes all pertinent facts into consideration..

not just those that the writer or reader thinks makes their point.

making a point is not the point

    building a valid argument is

you do understand that there is a difference between elected officials acting on the conscience’s those who elected them counted upon them to have

and a group of unaccountable private financiers impeding the ability of elected officials to function

    don’t you?

Or the recall election of the Governor? I love the obstructionist charges leveled at congress.. the HR.. who at least put budgets on the table… but say JoB… you think we won;t have to recall Senators? It’s a play right out of the Democratic governance book… thanks for the good idea… I just got the “hit” list of all the vulnerable democratic Senators… with states that have recall provisions. Here… the world of the greatest obstructionist… the man who won’t submit a budget…

“Harry Reid Says Congressional Dems Won’t Work with a Romney Administration

    November 2, 2012

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has a response to Mitt Romney’s claim that he will “reach across the aisle” to work with Democrats in Congress, if he becomes president: Don’t bet on it.

“Mitt Romney’s fantasy that Senate Democrats will work with him to pass his ‘severely conservative’ agenda is laughable,” the Nevada Democrat said in a statement Friday morning. He went on to list a series of Republican-backed measures he said Democrats would never support.”

Sounds like a threat to impede government … as he has done for the last three years….

Ok Harry.. force the hand… we will drop PAC money by the bucket load… and take away that Senate majority… you can join Nancy in a basement office…. a recall election is the voice of the people… just comes a little sooner. Democrats showed the way… consider it flattery… we are taking your playbook.

BTW JoB… my prostate exam is covered by my insurance and viagra too… you aren’t paying a dime. It’s not in the public square.

Going off into fantasyland now…Repubs are going to recall Harry Reid? The guy who won his last election by 6 points? No wonder no one takes this BS seriously.

No, there are 23 Democratic Senators in red states… he can stay… we just have to take his majority. That’s not BS.. thats possible and probable. Just like the war on women… we didn’t need ALL of them just enough to win. Looks like we got em.

Well, I’m glad you’re acknowledging that Obama is going to win the Presidency, since you’re now moving on to the next fantasy argument. Is that the new Fox News line?

    kootch..

do you read your own quotes?

““Mitt Romney’s fantasy that Senate Democrats will work with him to pass his ‘severely conservative’ agenda is laughable,””

did your read the functional part of that statement or just pass right over it?

I’ll put it in caps for you so you won’t miss it..

TO PASS HIS SEVERELY CONSERVATIVE AGENDA

thank Goodness Harry won’t work with Romney to pass that agenda.

That’s not what the people elected him to do…

and regardless of how much money is thrown at the effort..

the people who elected him are the only body that can recall him.

The democrats were equally sensible in refusing to work with the House when they attached equally extreme conservative agendas to every bill they sent the Senate.

    We will do what’s right…

but only if you cave to our demands isn’t actually a good working strategy in any organization.

There is a reason we are seeing an escalation of bullying in our schools..

children copy the behavior they see in adults

our nation’s children follow the example we set for them :(

Can you cite any historical precedent for recalling 23 Senators during a Presidential term? Or even 6 or 7? Of course you can’t.

I haven’t been watching the election ads..

    by choice..

but in the last 48 hours i have seen the kind of electioneering that money just can’t buy…

substantiated allegations of perjury, profiteering and possible illegal manipulation of a charitable trust to avoid taxes… leveled against Mitt..

How uncomfortable would it be to have the IRS investigating the sitting president? Not so cool :(

LOL.. maybe it’s a good thing for Mitt that all those early voting Republicans can’t change their votes…

or maybe they would vote for him anyway.

maybe perjury, tax evasion and profiteering only count if the perpetrator is a democrat

anyone want to revise their numbers in light of the late breaking scandals?

If Romney takes VA – especially by a fairly large percentage – then all bets are off and and the “poll weighting” debate will have legs.

    4:30 pacific?

    Stay tuned!
