JoBParticipantOn science.. from Virginia Tech
A few months ago I wrote a letter with my advisor, Mike Hochella, to the president of Virginia Tech asking him to pledge Virginia Tech’s support for a debate on Science in this year’s election. Virginia Tech pledged its support along with several hundred other universities, companies, and NGOs.
The candidates did not accept the debate, but they have answered 14 top science questions submitted by the ScienceDebate2008 organization. If you would like to know where Obama and McCain stand on issues of energy policy, national security, economics in a science-driven global economy, climate change, education, health care, ocean health, biosecurity, clean water, space, stem cells, scientific integrity, genetics, and research the please check out the following link.
The two candidates’ full responses can be found here:

c@lbobMemberHe starts right out complaing about regulation, but McCain didn’t tell how he thought health care costs could be reduced in that article as well as he did in
http://www.contingencies.org/septoct08/mccain.pdf
“Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”
Same old snake oil from the supply siders, the magic of the market. Let the costs of the business failures that result from their deregulation trickle down on us all. They’ll do for health care what they’ve done to the securities market, and the S&L industry before that. What a deal!
Note the dates, these articles portray his very recent opinions. Don’t fall for him trying to hide his spots now. He’s a tool of the big money boys and girls.
