WorldCitizenParticipantSo, I understand the rhetoric is there for a reason, but this seems to be at a new level. When do we begin to take them at their word?

WorldCitizenParticipantFor those of you who haven’t gotten around to reading the news this morning:

dobroParticipantFearmongering and posturing I’d say. I hereby fearlessly predict that North Korea will not fire a nuclear weapon at the United States. In fact, I’d bet money on it. If they did, all that would be left of N. Korea would be a smoking hole and I think they know that.

wakefloodParticipantYeah, not gonna’ happen. They’re using the only leverage they have to get attention – which translates to $. They’re an irrelevant petulant child but one that has an ace up their sleeve.
Spent some time in South Korea. Lots of folks want reunification when they think they have a rational partner. Kinda’ surprised that Un went this route with the outright threat but I suspect he just wants to solidify his position in internal leadership, much like what the old Soviet leaders did when they first assumed power. Puff out your chest and see what happens.

JanSParticipantmy first thought was…how big are they? how big are we? really?
they are also making noise about no cease fire in the DMZ w/ S. Korea…lots of posturing these days…

DBPMember>all that would be left of N. Korea would be a smoking hole and I think they know that.
They’ve already got the ‘hole.
Just add smoke.

anonymeParticipantCall me suspicious, but why is it these horrendous threats always seem to coincide with (potential) military budget cuts?
