HomerParticipantJust read a story on KIRO saying Ivar’s cancelled this years (and maybe for good) it’s yearly Elliot Bay fireworks show on the 4th of July!! What are we all going to do now that they’ll be nothing to watch from Hamilton Viewpoint Park? You still could see the Lake Union show from there but that’s more a fun afterthought! Here’s the story:

TheHouseMemberAlthough the PR states differently, I’m sure this was a costly event for Ivars and I’m sure they’re attempting to save $$$.
That doesn’t change the fact that it sucks. Boeing or Microsoft, step up to the plate.

JanSParticipantSomething we can agree on, House…and the big bucks they were losing are now going to go towards feeding people in these tough times with their working arrangement with Northwest Harvest. Talk about do-gooder’s ! :)

vincentMemberThe lake union show has been sponsored by wamu for the last couple of years, who is paying for it this year?

rockergirlMemberLooks like Chase is taking over the WAMU Show.
Too bad Ivars did not try to get more sponsors involved to keep the show going.
Tough times call for tough decisions though.

flowerpetalMemberAnd Chase has only agreed to host the Lake Union fireworks for one year. No promises after that. I’m concerned that even more in-city residents will put on their own show from the middle of the street to reign down on neighbors’ roofs.

JanSParticipantflowerpetal, you have every right to be concerned.
Chase is not local, WaMu was…Chase doesn’t value the city and it’s events, I’m thinkin’. I know that they’ve lost my business…
as was stated above, let’s hope that someone takes up the torch and becomes a sponsor :)

flowerpetalMemberPhllyis Campbell, who took on the job of heading up Chase locally is a long time Seattle advocate. If she has any sway, I would expect that it will continue. I’m sure she couldn’t commit in the name of her new employer. She’s been on the job for just weeks.

bsmommaParticipantDoes anyone have a boat to offer up? We could have our very own West Seattle 4th of Juloger!
