I am a massage therapist who accepts many insurances. I do not expect tips from anyone, esp. my medical massage clients. Others may feel differently. Usually, I get a copay during their visit. And that’s all that’s needed. You are not obligated to tip for a medical massage. Of course, if you are so moved, I’m sure your therapist won’t turn it down. I have had medical clients who sneakily would leave a tip on the massage table (usually a five)and I wouldn’t discover it until after they’re gone. Remember, we are licensed as health care providers…you wouldn’t tip your doc, either.
If you are getting massage through a referral from your doc, be sure to check with your insurance to see if you’ve met your deductible, if there is one. It usually starts anew on Jan.01. In that case we still bill for the massage, but you are responsible for paying the entire visit amount. They subtract our claim amount from the deductible.
Hope your needs are met and you feel better in no time :)
