Moving in next week to North Admiral area, new to Seattle/WA and very excited to join the neighborhood. I have 3 focused days to get my house set up. What recommendations / lessons learned / must visit?

Needs: internet, cable, dmv, lawn care, dog care (vet, in-house sitter, boarding) firewood, furniture/decor, security, shoe repair

I look forward to being part of this wonderful community!

    Welcome.

It’s hard to make recommendations without knowing more about your particular situation.

We have Comcast for Internet and cable (and land line service). A lot of people have gripes about Comcast, but our experience has been relatively trouble free. There are few options to Comcast, and I don’t know of any that are complaint free or one-stop solutions.

True Value in the junction will be your friend, but also check out Alki Lumber, McLendons in White Center, and Home Depot in Sodo and along Delridge.

DMV near Westwood has lines, as most DMVs have. At last renewal I got an enhanced drivers license that allows me to use it at Canadian border crossings in lieu of a passport. Allow extra time if you choose that upgrade because your data has to be entered into both the state and federal databases, plus you have to undergo additional screening.

Dog care/vets — a number of threads on those subjects.

Shoe repair — I believe the shop in Admiral Junction is still open.

Appreciate the response – particular situation is unimportant other than have 3 days to set it up so that when the final move-in takes place all is golden. Don’t want to limit it because I look forward to the new ideas! For example, hoping the Tue Value and Alki lumber checks out because I’ve been enslaved to the “orange box” for too long!!!

Welcome! For DMV, this is the link to where you’d get your drivers license taken care of: http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/ and this is for vehicle registrations: http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/ I moved here from NY where you did both at the same place, so was surprised when I needed to go to two different places.

As for pet sitters, I love Jackie & Jason at http://jwpetcare.com/ . For vets, the two main ones in West Seattle that seem to get popular reviews are Lien Animal Clinic http://www.lienanimal.com/ and West Seattle Animal Hospital http://www.westseattleanimal.com/ – I used to go to Lien but now go to WS Animal.

I also love True Value Hardware and second that recommendation.

Jackie and Jason are great. They watch my cats when I need to leave Seattle. True Value will likely have everything you need and more importantly, the people to help make sure that is what you need. Get a True Values reward card too, since you’ll be back.

There is a shoe repair place in Admiral, Admiral Shoe Repair that gets good Yelp reviews.

We have our own Trader Joes, which took years of requesting, and there is a Mud Bay Pet Store in Admiral, and Next-to Nature in the Junction.

    Welcome to our neighborhood.

Enjoy the karaoke at Yen Wor Village (California and College). Enjoy the alcoholic beverages. Food is also served.

Even though I’ve lived here in N Admiral for 20 years, I recently discovered Muttley Crew Cuts for grooming and occasional boarding (when not using Rover) and it has been great. I also like Mud Bay on California for dog food, and have used Alki Keys, just next door, for years and years.

I think it’s city law that all residents of N Admiral must become regulars at Circa. So please add that to your to-do list before the food cops find you. They are known for their steak salad, burgers, and the giagantic slice of chocolate cake that I never order because it’s so good I’d eat the whole damn thing.

Other food places in the ‘hood worth checking out (in no particular order):

-Blackboard Bistro (an inventive and ever-changing menu (with a knowledgeable staff to talk you through it), always good)

-West City Kitchen (check out the grilled sardine small plate and the chicken entree)

-Copper Coin (good burgers and onion rings, nice small plates, best beer selection in N Admrial, a plesant place to read on a weekend afternoon (if there isn’t a big game on TV))

-Mission (high-end Mexican, cool bar, hot sauce)

DaveB, If good Admiral food destinations are part of the menu, then Pizzeria 22 deserves a shout. Wonderful, fresh thin crust pies, nice neighborly ambiance and a fun place to eat.

It’s been a while, but I used to live in North Admiral and absolutely loved it. Metro Market’s deli is great when you don’t feel like cooking!

Good call RW. My wife is gluten free so pizza is rarely on our radar.
