SusanMemberI live in a small condo development on California Ave, not far from West Seattle Nursery. When a package arrives, the mail carrier is supposed to leave it in a locked package box below the development’s bank of letter boxes. The mail carrier never bothers to lock the package boxes. I have complained to the post office about this before.
Inevitably, a package for me was stolen from one of the unlocked package boxes. I reported it to the police, but I don’t think there’s anything they can do. I also reported it to the postmaster. I got the impression that he won’t do more than talk to the mail carrier and supervisor about it.
I was wondering if anyone else in the neighborhood has had this problem. If you have, please report it to the postmaster, Westwood Station Manager Jaime Tumbang, at 206-938-7769. Perhaps if several of us speak up at the same time, this mail carrier will be replaced with someone competent.

roundthesoundParticipantWow you have a locked box for your mail?! My packages just get left right out in front of my house; that’s why I always get delivery confirmation or have packages held at the post office.

AimParticipantI’m pretty convinced that Westwood PO is just generally not very good at hiring people who give a damn. We’ve got a mail carrier who shows up right about 60% of the time. When he does bother to show up, he crumples all our mail into a small ball and shoves it into the box. It’s not just us — the neighbors report the same thing (else I would have assumed maybe we pissed him off somehow)
However, he’s 100% better than the one before him who ripped envelopes, left half the mail on the ground because she couldn’t be assed to pick up what she dropped as she put it in the box, and was on her cellphone yammering to her friend the entire route. I’d see her around the neighborhood, yakking away all day long.

jschuMemberThe USPS person? what street? Is it on Concord? The people they hire for weekend delivery are not the same as during the week. I believe they are part time or scabs. They are never on time and seem distracted. they are from India or Uganda?

CBMemberContact the Postal Inspection Service. In the old days, they were the police of the Post Office, I’m pretty sure they’re still a part of the PO.

flowerpetalMemberIts disheartening to read of all of this sloppy service from your mail carrier. How yucky that must be. Our Westwood based carrier is excellent. We have had great service from him weekdays and weekends.
And Uganda/India? I’m curious how you decided that your carrier might be from one of those two countries.

TraciMemberI have everything delivered to Covington (as in 98042, by Maple Valley C-Town) because as much as I looooove West Seattle, this kind of crap is too common.
:(

saneyMemberour mail person in terrible. he/she (no idea, i am at work when mail is delivered) uses very little care when putting mail in the little box. i had to cancel netflix because he kept breaking the disks. instead of holding larger items at the post office, they are just left on my doorstep…which happens to be about 4 steps from the sidewalk on california avenue–not very safe.
now i just have anything larger than an envelope sent to my office.

flowerpetalMemberI’m not sure what relevancy the person’s country of origin has to the post or to their ability or lack of ability to deliver mail. I think that is why TR has an “ism” rule for the forums.

GenHillOneParticipantjschu – the preponderance of details across your posts from ethnicity to specific streets to a neighbor’s name seem irrelevant to me; you might want to remember that this is a very public form of communication and some of those facts or speculations may not be appropriate.
January 24, 2009 at 9:09 pm #655971
jschuMemberI thought it would help- the street is a name only but not what block- the ethnicity can be helpful in discribing a person. Like when a bank is robbed you get the approximate age, gender and discription. It I robbed a bank it would say white male 5foot 5 approx 380 lbs, wearing a blue wind breaker etc

flowerpetalMemberIt would’ve been helpful if it was bank robbery, you’re correct! But this wasn’t a bank robbery. If you have a complaint about your mail delivery (and I’m not sure that “on time” or seeming “distracted” is much of a complaint) then the post office inspector will know who your carrier.

jschuMemberYou know complaining about required services is dicey. If they find out it is you they may retaliate by messing with your mail or hurting your pets. you know if you send back a meal and complain at a restaurant – they chef will pay you back by messing with your food- this is a common practice- so dicey to complain.

flowerpetalMemberI think our posts have branched off in different directions. I have no problems with wanted posters for criminal acts as I said above in post 13. I believe I made that clear.
January 25, 2009 at 3:21 am #655976
jschuMemberI agree- lets agree to disagree. USPS workers are not criminals like you said. Everyone needs to calm down the discussion has gone off track. Just contact USPS with any complaints. Agreed?
January 25, 2009 at 4:40 am #655977
flowerpetalMemberThanks jschu. I think we are not disagreeing at all. We both agree that USPS is who to contact for bad mail delivery service. I would be miffed too if I didn’t get the service that I pay for.
