At the risk of sounding completely gullible . . . a while back a long term resident of Alki told me that the restrooms at Lincoln Park were the only public restrooms designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I haven’t been able to finding anything published to support this, but thought I would throw it out to the West Seattle community. Anyone heard of such a thing or was I just the victim of someone’s tall tales?

It would be cool if they were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. All I am able to confirm is they smell way bad!!!!! Don’t go in there unless you have a sugical mask doused with lilac or something

I’m thinking these are not if I’m remembering the insides correctly. FLW added as a feature to public bathrooms in larger buildings the “hung wall” which did not reach to the floor and therefor made it easier for cleaning purposes (and for a certain Senator from Idaho to toe tap).

The bathrooms at the beach at Lincoln Park don’t have hung walls.

Are you talking about the semi-buried ones by the beach? I believe they were built around 1970, while FLW died in 1959.

I can’t confirm that they were designed by FLW, but I can vouch that the one by the wading pool smells worse than any bathroom I’ve ever been in. If they were designed by him, the city should be ashamed by how dirty they are. I won’t complain as much about the locker room at Colman after the wading pool restroom. Disgusting.
