    Having lived in the area for only a few years, I have not felt like I have grown into this community as much as I would like, so apologies WSEA!

    The Problem:

    I am having difficulty finding street parking near LA Fitness, and wanted to open up some dialogue with my neighbors to see if this is shared by anyone else?

    Potential solution:

    Restricted Zone parking?

    I encourage healthy dialogue, but mainly want to see if the issue I am noticing is not imagined, and if it meets the qualifications for the permit parking.

    If so, maybe we can get the ball rolling with enough signatures?

    That seems to have always been a very crowded area in terms of parking due to the bowling alley, Trader Joe’s, now the gym, and all the new buildings that have gone up, and taking away the parking that used to be on Alaska for the bus lane. It will probably get worse as the construction continues and the buildings start to fill up, and any spots that are aren’t time limited are also probably being used as a park & ride for the nearby Rapid Ride stop.

    Question: do you live near there, or are you a gym member looking for parking? If the latter, I thought they had parking for members? (I could be wrong, but that’s what I thought I’d heard.)

    I don’t know about the RPZ parking, but I have a feeling a lot of the parking is also taken up by people who live in the nearby apartment buildings but don’t want to pay for the parking garages. So they’d end up qualifying as residents and getting a pass to park in a RPZ. And, it looks from your link as if they look at 10 continuous blocks. If you go a few blocks south on Fauntleroy (where I used to live) and neighboring side streets, there used to be a lot more open spots, so that might work against the application. Doesn’t hurt to ask them to take a look though.

    Great point, I missed that about the 10 blocks.

    I live on 40th between alaska and Oregon.

    I have, however, observed gym members parking on the street for convenience.

    LA Fitness has lots of parking for customers under the building.

    RPZs have come up in that area before. The Junction Neighborhood Organization took it up under previous leadership; the org has been revived in the past year and MEETS TONIGHT!!!!! I urge you to go (I am a big proponent of getting involved with neighborhood councils – they have far fewer people than they need for critical mass and yet the city relies on them as communication channels among other important functions these all-volunteer groups have, unofficially, without funding, etc.) if you can – it’s in our daily preview on the main page – 6:30 pm at the Senior Center. Let René the leader know you have a topic to bring up. – Tracy

    Certainly much has changed in those five years (back then, the building that houses LA Fitness was known as “The Hole” and no one knew when it would become more than a stalled excavation)!
