sgrayMemberI’m looking for recommendations on a landscape company. We need an overhaul in our backyard because the previous owners didn’t really take care of the yard, and then a good clean up in the front yard.
Thanks so much!!!

jwwsParticipantNorthwest Botanicals is a great local company we have worked with for a number of years. They specialize in design, installation and maintenance of sustainable gardens and are wonderful people to work with. Most importantly, they are licensed, bonded and insured.

CostanzaParticipantThanks jwws! I’ve been curious about the same thing and have now bookmarked NW Botanicals. Are their prices reasonable?

maddyParticipantTheir prices are in line with what a landscaping business charges these days. ($42-$45/hr.)I checked out half a dozen landscapers and Northwest Botanicals’ web site had the best looking landscape work. Have used them once so far and they did a remarkable job – what they had to deal with was a very overgrown and messy part of my garden. Also a very nice group of people to work with. If you can find a more reasonable gardener who can work without supervision from the home
owner and does a terrific job – please let me know. Believe me – I get more duds than good workers and then I have to hire someone else to clean up after the duddy one.

jwwsParticipantCostanza,
I believe they charge about $45 per hour, while probably not the least expensive, they are very much in line with other landscape professionals we work with. I would highly encourage you to check out their website and blog and contact Diana or Pat with any questions you may have regarding your specific needs.

CostanzaParticipantThanks! My main specific need is anything that can survive a nuclear blast or my lack of green thumb

BreezyParticipantWe’ve been using Essential Gardeners. Knowledgable and just a great company to work with. For the jobs we can’t do, their team comes in and gets it down. Prices are in the $40’s per hour.

WS PersonParticipantWhat about a company that does both lawn and yard maintenance (weeding, clean up, pruning). I don’t need a landscape company but I do need a company that can do both. I don’t want to hire to different companies to maintain my yard.

amaliaParticipantYou can get unskilled labor (not to say they aren’t good, just not professional landscapers) for much less at Casa Latina, or outside Home Depot. I mean, if you just want pulling/digging/clearing. Why pay for more than you need? For ongoing maintenance, though, I understand needing to hire a company.
March 19, 2014 at 4:42 pm #805903
WS PersonParticipantI am looking for regular maintenance. I need spring clean up to start, bi-weekly mowing, and as needed weeding, etc. Does anyone have a rec for someone who does this and does not charge $40/hour? So far I keep getting recs for either lawn work or yard clean up, but not someone who does it all.
March 19, 2014 at 6:23 pm #805904
BreezyParticipantWolfie, Essential Gardener’s does both lawn work and yard clean up (weeding, mulching, pruning, etc.), as well as regular maintenance, but if you need hardscape work, I think you need to look to landscape contractor’s. And they’re still in the $40’s per hour, but they’re licensed, bonded, very well trained/educated. Wish you luck and happy growing!! Something else to try, are there yards in/near your area that you admire? Inquire with the owner’s as to whom does their yard work.

Green GuyParticipantIf you need yard mowing and maintenance on a continued basis Howard from Pink Rose is the guy to talk to. Local West Seattle guy with 30 plus years experience. Very reasonable on pricing. Give him a call @ 206.423.4033

kayoParticipantWe use Clean Air Lawn Care for regular lawn maintenance and also had them do a cleanup this winter (not super cheap, but they did a good job.). We’ve been happy with them. I’ve also had Casa Latina out in the past to do some general cleanup yard work and the guy they sent did a pretty good job (worked his tail off all day). I think we paid him $15 an hour plus lunch and a tip.

mightymoParticipantI can’t seem to search threads anymore (even searching via Google for site:westseattleblog.com/forum doesn’t work), which is annoying, but I’m glad this thread is recent.
We need someone to trim some hedges and overgrown shrubs close to our house to prepare for an expected exterior paint job this summer. Has anyone used the above recommended services for this sort of work? I can handle mowing my own lawn and don’t need something ongoing. Thanks in advance.

WSBKeymasterIt came up in another thread, but yes, we are having trouble with search for the forum. We have a new firm under contract and working right now on pretty much a total revamp of the site’s creaky technical undercarriage – it started with a simple plea just to fix some of the forum glitches and morphed into a frighteningly massive project, but there’s no way around it. If anybody is looking for something urgently, send me a note and I can find it through internal search, because all 200,000+ posts are still there, back to day 1. – Tracy

mightymoParticipantSweet, Tracy. I figured you had a long-term plan to upgrade things. Hopefully, the next solution allows some option to sort by date (at the very least).

sgrayMemberThanks for all the tips. This is proving so difficult!
