Naneki AkamaiParticipantDoes anyone know of someone who can repair/rewire a lamp? I tried to do it myself and was woefully inadequate at the task. Thanks in advance.

miwsParticipantHi, Naneki.
Try McLendon Hardware, in White Center, 206-762-4090.
They MAY be able to do it for you, if it’s a simple re-wire, and if they have time.
When I worked there as a cashier a few years back, I’d occasionally see the electrical dept folks doing basic tasks like that, for customers.
At the time, it was not an actual service, but something the people in that department would do as a courtesy.

tjbplumberParticipantwow thats good if they still do that. I thought that kind of thing went out in the 50s

FranciParticipantIf McClendons can’t help. Harolds Lighting on 45th, across the street from the Wallingford Center does lamp repair.

2 Much WhineParticipantI’ve had success at Harold’s Lamps on 45th although I just looked at some recent reviews and it appears my success may not have been experienced by all their customers. One thing is for sure – repairing lamps is a service they offer and they’ve been in business for many years. I can tell you that several years ago they donated services to a West Seattle Elementary School auction – that should count for something. . . .

FranciParticipantThey did a great job for me, and I thought it was reasonable.. The on/off switch was on the part that holds the bulb – it overheated and stopped working.
Harolds replaced the bulb receptacle and the cord – switching the on/off to the cord itself. This was late last year.

B-squaredParticipantHansen’s Lamp and Shade in Lake City also does lamp repair (might be worth checking out if Harold’s doesn’t work out)

DianaParticipantThere is a gentleman at True Value in the Junction who is expert at lamp repair. I don’t recall his name but you can call and inquire. He’s done several projects for me including antique lamp repair. I highly recommend him!

celeste17ParticipantThe gentleman at True valley is Mr. Rafert. I went to grade school with his son.

If you haven’t got it done yet, I can show you how to rewire a lamp or other light fixtures. I do my own wiring and have all the connectors and hardware. If you want a 3- way light, you use a 3-way switch, or a dimmer switch for a variable brightness. I live in West Seattle
