cjboffoliParticipantI just came back from the Post Office in the Junction. I hit it at the wrong time today because the line was out the door. In line in front of me were two young ladies who absolutely reeked of marijuana smoke. No judgment. I can totally relate as my trips to the Post Office often leave me with the urge to drink bourbon. I’ve never thought of getting blotto BEFORE my visit. I suppose they had the same idea, just executed differently.
So anyway, just as we were getting up to the counter I noticed that the package they were apparently there to mail was in a Fex Ex box and one of the women had a waybill in her hand. I watched with interest as they bellied up to the counter and presented their package to the clerk. He very politely explained to them that Fed Ex was not the Post Office but in fact a private company. They didn’t seem to understand this. He repeated that he’d be unable to help them. So then they pleaded with him to at least help them fill out the waybill correctly.
As someone who is admittedly a little too obsessed with the tiny details of life I was astonished that two women in their late 20’s would be so clueless. I mean, there is a Fed Ex parcel drop off outside the door of the Post Office. But still. For some reason it is fascinating to me that people like that exist. Part of me wanted to tag them and follow them like Jacques Costeau would tag and follow a shark.

mellaw6565MemberIt is unfortunate that these 2 are giving pot smokers a bad name!

In2theknightMemberI imagine they then made their way over to the ATM…and pulled out their library card.

IrukandjiParticipantLove it. Sorry I was at the dispatch office up near Admiral.
.
Reminds me, though, of two women in the Harborview parking lot talking about a friend who was playing the Stupid Game. She rolls the dice and they come up STUPID, so she rolls them again and gets STUPID again. She loves that game and just can’t quit.

shed22ParticipantIrukandji . . . I don’t mean to be dense, but I don’t get it. Maybe I should smoke a little and re-read. : )

mellaw6565MemberI get it – no matter how many times the dice are rolled it still says “Stupid”.
And yes, I needed some to get it:)

IrukandjiParticipantIt was a great conversation between these women and I’m with you both, Mellaw and Shed. A very animated and choppy way to have described a friend’s errant choices.

josie2006MemberI was at the Westwood post office a week ago and the woman in front of us was trying to send a package with a UPS label. The clerk was polite and gave her the same explanation the 2 women above got, but she became irate and stated “well you don’t have to be condescending”. I wonder how often this happens?

SueParticipantJosie, my brother works for the post office in New York. He mostly works in the back office doing accounting, but on Saturdays he has to work the window. He said that people constantly are screaming at him/them, not understanding basic instructions, trying to mail UPS/Fedex, etc. He said people will call if their mail carrier is so much as 5 minutes late, just to yell at them. Once they were told the mail was delayed because their carrier had died that morning, and the woman said she didn’t care and somebody else should have been sent out on time. Another regular customer talks about how she suspects the aliens are stealing her mail. Talking with my brother, I understand more why they “go postal.”
