This is worth the 10 minutes it takes to listen to her presentation.

Jill Bolte Taylor got a research opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: She had a massive stroke, and watched as her brain functions — motion, speech, self-awareness –- shut down one by one. An astonishing story.

I just returned to the library the amazing self told story by Floyd Skloot who, in 1998, contracted a virus which attacked his brain. In a nutshell he ended up with a traumatic brain injury which left large pockets of his gray matter nonfunctioning. It is an inspiring story; and often funny. Skloot is an author of some note before his injury and the writing of this book is a huge accomplishment.
