nuniMemberWe just got back from Ireland and I’m already craving an Irish Breakfast! Has anyone tried the Irish breakfast at Celtic Swell?

NewGuyMemberMay I suggest either some Irish Oats or Lucky Charms with a side of Jameson?

CaitParticipantA fan of Irish food?! My lord… I’m as Irish as it gets and I can’t stand it. But if their other menu items are any indication, I’d give it a shot at the Celtic Swell. One thing they can’t replicate… the GREAT dairy standards the Irish have. Any dairy product they have (cheese in particular) is miles better than ours. Did you fly Aer Lingus by chance? That plane food was the best food I had while “in Ireland”.
I really can’t do the Irish food myself. I am constantly burning/mauling/destroying food when I cook. When I was a nanny and the kid hated what I cooked, I’d just tell him that that’s “how we make it in the old country.”
And Lucky Charms with Jameson? Does it have to be on the side, or can I replace the milk with the Jameson?

NewGuyMemberMy friend Connie loves Lingus. It’s a *side* of Jameson, not a replacement for the milk.

trensuelaMemberThere is a good reason that Irish restaurants are so few and far between and that Irish pubs are plentiful. The Irish have to drink to deal with their cuisine. I say this as one of Irish descent who at various points has ethnically identified himself as Irish.

RSMemberI’d love to hear other recommendations for irish breakfast places around town. I crave a good ulster fry every now and again. And Ireland gets a bad rap on food. There are some really good restaurants and innovative cooking going on over there lately! Not just cabbage and potatoes 17 different ways. they’ve even got microbreweries!

Wylie_snoopMemberTheir breakfast good but The George and Dragon in Fremont is better.

JoBParticipanti haven’t found a good source for an irish breakfast here yet.. but i sure hope someone else has…
trensuela… a good pint complements irish food…
if you don’t appreciate one you aren’t so likely to appreciate the other…

nuniMemberThanks Wylie I should check it out!
To Cait, yep, we flew Lingus and the food was pretty good on the way back. Unfortunately I was too doped up on the way there to enjoy their food (I was asleep). I am a weeny when it comes to flying.

CaitParticipantOh man! I was too, it was my first trans-continental flight and I was strangely calmed by their food. I think they drugged it. :)

grrltraveler2007MemberI can’t wait until cruiser (hubby) gets online to weigh in with this one! :) He just got back from visiting family in Ireland (being his home country), flying with Aer Lingus and said the food was worse than it’s ever been. Our previous experiences had all been great – friendly staff, good service, good food (with airline food, it’s relative) and drink. This time, not so much. I guess everyone is cutting back.
As far as Irish food goes, well I guess you need to be married to an Irishman to appreciate some of the dishes. I typically like my food spicy and Irish food is NOT that. If you are looking for anything besides good old meat and potatoes, then Irish food isn’t for you. I had a hard time coming to terms with that when I was just a ‘visitor’.. Cruiser makes the best Shepherds Pie and even more to die for corned beef and cabbage (although they don’t actually use CB in Ireland but we can’t find the bacon they use, not American bacon). Yum, yum. Comfort food at it’s finest.
As far as good Irish food around here, we are still looking! We actually got an Irish breakfast at Mick Kelly’s that did not come with the traditional (or any) bacon! Very disappointed that hubby had to ask for it and then it was..gasp!..American bacon. Not the lovely Irish bacon. Sigh.. Celtic Swell, we have just not tried the food since we had just about the worst pint of Guinness there 2 years ago. The young lad poured the pint like it was Bud. (crying..) It was sacrilege.
That’s all. I hope Cruiser posts! :)
