I need a bale of straw to mulch my leeks, onions, and a few other veggies. Does anyone have an idea where I can buy one? Thanks!

Maybe you should contact one of the folks in the thread about mucking out stalls at local horse farms. I’m sure they’d be able to source one for you.

If you cannot find a place with straw in West Seattle, Hayes Feed Store, 908 SW 152nd St, in Burien has it. They are one block west of Ambaum on the north side of the street in Olde Burien.

Sorry, we don’t bed the stalls with straw, we use shavings. I also have gotten straw from the place in Burien.

This is not any help, but I remember that I used to to get straw at the West Seattle Feed and Seed, which was located in the building that now houses the yoga place near Bakery Nouveau. I miss that store, it was not at all upscale and had an incredible variety of supplies and it reminded me of the farm supply stores in rural Oregon where I grew up.

    pssst.

There are two bales of straw along side the road on 30th ave where the sidewalk construction is slowly progressing.

The last time I bought straw in Burien, it was nearly 20 buck a bale including tax and the owner said it was because all the construction companies were buying it and creating a “shortage”.

Mike D., WS Seed and Feed sounds awesome. I love going to Bay Hay when I’m on Bainbridge — I can imagine WSSF being similar (maybe not as chi chi). :)
