WSBKeymasterThey brought it to the WSB Forums first, and now the show is almost here – Grace and Mary from Seattle Lutheran with their senior project to raise money for The Mount, where both volunteer – a fashion show looking back through the past century. It’s this Sunday, 4 pm, at Seattle Lutheran. See you there!

homedkParticipantKudos to Grace & Mary! It’s wonderful that they have chosen to help Mt. St. Vincent with their senior project, as well as organizing a fun West Seattle event.
As someone who has a family member living at the Mount, I have seen how volunteers & donations can make a HUGE difference to the residents there. The staff is wonderful & they do a tremendous job, but with money & volunteer help they can vastly improve the quality of life for the residents.
Boredom can be a real problem for residents in nursing homes, especially for those who don’t have many visitors & cannot go anywhere (even outside) without assistance. Money & volunteers help make field trips, concerts & other entertainment possible. (I want to also take the time to mention that books, videos, magazines, CDs & DVDs are also much appreciated…)

homedkParticipantAdding to what I said earlier, when people require so much assistance, many things that most of us take for granted become costly & unaffordable. For example, one resident that I know (who is battling a terminal illness, but is otherwise very competent) has an elderly sister near Capitol Hill who can no longer drive; $60 cab fares make it necessary for them to visit by phone rather than in person.
