seaopgalParticipantFriends of Woodland Park Zoo Elephants is a great group involved with the effort to retire the African elephant, Watoto — 44 years in captivity — to an animal sanctuary. They are currently running an outreach campaign to encourage Mayor Ed Murray to use his influence on zoo leaders, who want to transfer Watoto to another zoo, instead. Bamboo and Chai also deserve to retire to a sanctuary.
It’s fun and easy to get involved: Simply post a photo of your dog, cat, or other pet with your/their hope for the elephants to Mayor Murray’s Facebook page, twitter or email. Please use the hashtag #FreeWPZ3. Visit their Facebook page for more info and other pet photos: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-Woodland-Park-Zoo-Elephants/139371758686
Even if you don’t have a pet, you can speak up for Watoto. Now is the time — she may be moved to another zoo any day now. Email or tweet the Mayor, City Council and Zoo management. Visit the link below for more information about Watoto, contact emails, and talking points you can use or simply ask them to “Retire Watoto to a sanctuary.”

seaopgalParticipantThanks, JoB, that’s what counts!
Hope others will join us … apparently, the Mayor said he hadn’t heard too much about this issue from people, so we are trying to remedy the situation. :)

wakefloodParticipantJust pinged all on the list. Let’s hope they appreciate the bad optics on this better than Sea World has with their Orcas…
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. :-)
