RainyDay1235MemberI have a running list of things to do and see…West Seattle and otherwise. We’ll definitely hit Ballard since she’s from Norway!
This friend has been to Seattle before, so I’m looking for more (date) specific ideas outside of the Market, Needle etc. All fun, creative, musical, artsy ideas welcome!

CMPParticipantAvenue Q is playing at the Paramount through next weekend. My sister saw it in NYC and said it’s hilarious, but the Seattle Times says it’s geared towards 28-39 year olds. Kinda pricey tickets, but it might be worth checking out. For something really different, also at the Paramount, there’s silent movie Mondays where a guy will play the old Wurlitzer organ for silent films. I went last year and it was actually really cool.
I love taking people to the Ballard Locks and I think the Aquarium would be cool, but I haven’t been there since I was a kid so who knows if it’s worth it. I hear the Underground Tour is actually quite informative and you could ride the Duck. As cheesy at it seems, it’s a good way to see everything Seattle has to offer. Maybe take a tour of Safeco Field. Look into neighborhood art walks too, as those bring out a lot of people. Good luck!

KayleighMemberHow about the Frye Art Museum? I love it there. It’s free and parking is even free. Their cafe is good, too.

TrickParticipantI recently hosted a friend from Sweden, and the biggest “Wow” factor was floating the Yakima River, and taking in a show at the Gorge (or St Michelle winery)

flowerpetalMemberToo bad your company won’t be here this weekend for the monthly art attack in Georgetown. Its fun, funky and close to WS. Georgetown is still loads of fun and a great destination for outside the box tourism.

FranciParticipantHow about a day trip up to La Conner (lost of art to see there), then over the bridge to Whidbey Island, then coming down that side and taking a ferry back. Or doing an overnight somewhere along the way.

SuitsarenotBoringMemberI had a good friend from Sweden visit and she loved hanging out at Alki and browsing Ballard. She also liked breakfast at Easy Street, 9 lb Hammer in Georgetown, and lots of nachos and margaritas.

JoBParticipantwhat about the wooden boat center? they have free rides on at least some sunday afternoons?

Or bikes on Alki or Green Lake or Lake Union.

addParticipantWe are hosting new friends from France this week and have been thinking of some of the same things. Their 13 year old boy will be staying with us for 2 additional weeks, so we are trying to come up with ideas that a kid would enjoy too (such as EMP)!
Water Taxi to Pike Place Market, and a walk up to the Olympic Sculpture Park is on the docket for sure. I am thinking of a little roadtrip to the Olympic Peninsula and up to Hurricane Ridge, with perhaps one night of car-camping in Sequim. We are also going to Seaside Oregon for 2 nights at the end of the month.
Last summer we had different guests who LOVED the Underground Tour and I admit I found it fascinating all over again – last time I went we were new to Seattle (almost 20 years ago!).
Getting out on the water is a must – lots of choices already mentioned – another ferry idea is to walk on to Bainbridge, walk up to town for lunch (or dinner) and ferry back. If you have lots of $$ a seaplane tour might be fun.
I’ll be keeping my eye on this post for more ideas as well!

SuitsarenotBoringMemberI forgot the Underground Tour! My Swedish friend and two friends of hers from Vancouver loved that! It gives a more “real” picture an odd piece of Seattle history – and I hear it was much more entertaining than Underground Vancouver, which surprised me.

JeraldParticipantWe had a Norwegian visitor awhile ago who was interested in seeing/doing things specifically American. So even if it’s not “artsy” you might consider a Mariners game or eating at a BBQ place.

AnonymousInactivewhen my guy was visiting friends who live in Venice, the friends were so excited to take him out for dinner!
They kept talking about the dinner plans they had made and were soooo excited, but they wouldn’t tell him because they wanted to surprise him.
When dinnertime rolled around, they finally left for dinner and where did they go?
McDonald’s.
