KADParticipantAny body know the name of the owner of the Ephesus restaurant on California Ave next to the Rite Aid and what has been your experience there?

KayleighMemberI don’t know the name of the owner, but I did have some very good pasta there a couple years ago. If I remember, the menu was kind of limited…we didn’t go back.

addParticipantFunny, I drive by there practically every day and was just last week thinking I should post on this blog asking what people think, as we’ve never tried it – and it always looks empty! Any others been there recently?

WSBKeymasterYou could look it up in the business license database, owner’s name might be listed

hlywdsmMemberI’ve eaten here a couple times and have LOVED it. Their bruschetta is amazing, as well as the Lamb. I haven’t had anything else because those dishes were so good, but whatever my girlfriend gets she is always very happy with. This is the place I think to go when I really just want to get a good meal with my honey. The environment is really comfortable, and their wine list is pretty good to.

squareeyesParticipantI haven’t dined in, but gotten dinner to go a couple of times. The food is very simply prepared. Lamb skewers tender and cooked to perfection, a fairly plain pilaf, and decent dolmas/dolmades. I’ve never seen more than 2-3 tables occupied when I’ve been in there.
I’ve wondered if Kokoras has taken any business away from Ephesus – I know I’m inclined to go to Kokoras simply because it’s cheaper as well as heavier on the seasonings, although, as I already mentioned, Ephesus wins hands-down on the lamb skewers.

sanMemberThe few times we’ve eaten there it has been really tasty. The hummus is AMAZING! The people seem to be really nice, too. Give it a try. :)

HuindekmiParticipantThe food is good. The service is… surly.
.
It may be better now, as we haven’t been back in years. But the last two times my wife and I went in there (once on a Saturday evening, once mid week), the restaurant was mostly empty yet the waiter grumpily admonished us for not having reservations. “Well… I’ll seat you, but you really should have reservations.” Of course, the place remained mostly empty throughout our time there. Both times!
.
The waiter, son of the owner I believe, remained surly and curt the whole time. He basically treated us like we had no business being there.
.
We haven’t been back.
.
Kokoras is just as good, extremely friendly and welcoming, much busier, and don’t demand reservations.

squareeyesParticipantKAD – I’m wondering about how you worded your query. I’m construing it two ways, 1) you’ve never been and are just asking for opinions, 2) perhaps you’ve had an experience there and want to see if others had a similar one.
Have you dined there? Or am I reading too much into it?

charlabobParticipantWe’ve eaten there several times and both Bob and Charla love it. We’ve never had reservations and have been treated well — given our “favorite” table, etc. Sometimes it was even busy. I know at least twice our server was part of the family and we felt like part of the family too. (I spent 20 years in Lowell/Lawrence where Mediterranean food was almost the norm — this compares favorably.
