dufusMemberDoes anyone know the reason why there is a “no-call” phone list for those of us who do not want solicitors calling, and yet anyone can come to my door and interupt/intrude on my time and privacy? I had a person looking for donations to help with a movie being produced called “Star Kids”, he came to my door and it was after dark. He introduced himself by saying he was my neighbor, I quite sincerely told him I had never met him before and asked him which neighbor/where did he live as my neighbor? Since I did not recognize him. He proceeds to tell me he lives about 5 or 6 blocks north and 3 blocks east of me….hmmm. I had him leave literature outside (I never open my door to strangers) and I never buy anything at my door, our policy — so I did look up his cause on the internet, “Star Kids” so it appears to be legit, and a non-profit operation, which I might be interested in supporting, but NOT interested at all in having them come to my door after dark and try to get a foot in the door by claiming to be my “neighbor”….I wish we could “opt out” of having door to door solicitors as we can with sales phone calls.

KBearParticipantHave you tried a “No Solicitors” sign? Even if there were a list, it seems like many of those who go door-to-door are not the type who would check the list first. (Of course, they may ignore your sign, too, but at least there’s a direct line of communication there.)

GoGoParticipantWe had three young people from Qwest bang on our door the other night to talk us into switching to Qwest internet access. My husband told them there was no way we would even listen to them, we think the time for door to door solicitations should be over. If I had been home alone and they banged on the door like that they would’ve scared the crap out of me! (our house is kinda isolated)

IrukandjiParticipantComcast apparently doesn’t think NO SOLICITING signs apply to them if you are a customer, even if you didn’t call them. Creeps.
