tttParticipantJust before 6pm, at 45th and Alaska, my husband and 3 year old were getting ready to cross the street westbound when a teenage girl driving a blue 4-door sedan blew through the stop sign going Northbound (while talking on her pink/purple cell phone) and slammed on her brakes coming to a stop in the middle of the intersection. My husband came home, livid, that if he wasn’t vigilant and overly cautious about crossing the street with our son, that they both could have been killed or seriously injured by a girl driving distracted. He said as soon as she stopped, she threw down her cell phone (hopefully because she was shocked into knowing she should have been paying better attention to her driving).
If this is your daughter, or friend, please, please, please, let her know that my son’s and husband’s lives are worth paying attention when she drives.

angelescrestParticipantYou cannot possibly be joking about this! This was horrible to read about. Jeez! I consider this kid a potential murderer, and it’s time her parents did as well.
I am on edge every time I cross a street, with or without a kid. And while driving or biking, I have to be extra vigilant for pedestrians on phones/texting, as they oft meander mindlessly in and into traffic.
And that stupid attitude of “Just wait” just doesn’t have to be. There’s a way to raise ’em so they are conscientious behind the wheel/conscientious in life.

singularnameParticipantI am joking, actually. I find all the posts with headings like “Old White Truck Spewing Oil w/ Trees in Back” or “Lexus Owners, Particularly the One Whose License Plate Starts w/ a D” or “Three 16 to 20 YO Guys in a Gold Volkswagon w/ a Titti Titti Bongo Sticker” to be amusing. It reminds me of a “Let’s find’m and stone’m mentality.”
The incident as described–very serious. The girl’s parents will either be observant and correct her behavior or they don’t care and a horrible incident could result.
But there’s two sides to every story, and I’ve noticed that those who scream “Your kid” the loudest very often are those who scream “Not my kid” the loudest.
No clue what the case is here. But the only meaningful takeaway is to learn from stupidity and lack of care, and put that back on how you raise your own kid.
And then there’s just the human need to vent–I’ve certainly done my share, and I kinda like when folks on this board put it in perspective for me.

tttParticipantI originally posted this thinking that when my son is this age I would want to know if he was driving recklessly like this. His car & phone priviledge would be gone. I know that teenagers do stupid things–I did lots of stupid things as a teenager … That teenager could have seriously gotten injured by a car coming up Alaska street when she blew through the stop sign… just thought a parent out there might want to know… and a reminder to all people to be very cautious when crossing the street (a reminder that I needed too, I’m sure)… I get it that teenagers will be teenagers…

Genesee HillParticipantTeenagers will be teenagers. Yes, they are certainly a different breed of human. In 1959, when I was eight years old, I had the misfortune of viewing the movie, “Teenagers from Outer Space”. When the teenager’s cohorts started pointing the raygun at earthlings, and turning them into skeletons, I ran out of the theater!
Literally scared the heck out of me!
I have disliked teenagers ever since!
