Yep, I remember all of the recently posted stuff too, and, of course, when the ship hit the span!

(I just can’t fathom the fact that the high bridge is pushing 30!)

Ernst was the name of the hardware store on the corner of 44th and Alaska.

    Ah… memories!

So excited to see the people that mentioned Dogmeat’s Turnabout – Dogmeat was my dad!

Some things that I didn’t see already mentioned: Shafrans Apparel was (I believe) where Funky Jane’s Consignment is now, Godfather’s Pizza was in the building that occupies A Terrible Beauty and Blake’s Bakery was in the same spot as Bakery Nouveau. Also, the Starbucks Drive-Thru on Fauntleroy used to be Boston Market, and before that it was a Shakey’s Pizza, I’m PRETTY sure…

Where Capers is now used to be a pet store. Winchels on Admiral. Safeway gas station used to be an old gas station with the little attendant box in the middle! Coffee to a Tea was Snubbys. Cupcake Royal was a Ben & Jerrys…..before that??? The WF on Admiral was a clothing store…….the Black Panther?? Bartells in the Admiral used to be a Parking Lot! Lucciano used to be a little diner…..or was it Porterhouse? The Bridge was Roundtable Pizza. Loved Turnabout! @emery your dad explained what POW MIA was vs me sounding it out. Also bought my first tape there and married your brothers BFF! Haha. :)

emerysparks even before Shakey’s Pizza it was Gils Drive In…I worked there in high school. Boy those were the days. 20cent burgers,25cent cheeseburgers with 19cent fries and 25cent shakes. Other three corners had gas stations. KFC was the new building where Starbucks is now. The HY YU Carnival was at the WS Stadium. Before Ben & Jerry’s it was the “old lady” clothes shop called La Grace. Shafrons was between the Matador & the Indian restaurant (that was formerly Vann’s restaurant). I could go on and on.

    Mrs Fudd! Hello LOL

Now that you mention it, I remember that Capers was a pet store and I believe that it was a PetSmart. Also, Tacos Guaymas was Pojos! And I remember buying all kinds of bath beads and junk from the Soap Box, which was where Zamboangas is now. I don’t remember what Cupcake Royal’s Space was before it was Ben and Jerry’s.

Ooh, and Bison Creek Pizza was where Papa Johns is now.

Cupcake Royale/Ben & Jerry’s was La Grace Women’s Apparel for many years.

emerysparkles, I didn’t know your Dad well, but knew him well enough to know that he was a great guy! :-)

Wasn’t there a dollar(ish) store in that spot?? 5 Star or something like that? And then a (cheap) shoe store? Speaking of shoe stores, Volume Shoes was where the Bang Bar is and I think the kids shoe store (Shallots??) was somewhere around the closed pizza place. Aaaand Taco Bell where the Thai place is by Papa Johns! I Love this game…… Keep West Seattle ALIVE!!!!

Pre everything that has been mentioned in the Bang Bar/ATB spaces, Carlisle Furniture occupied the entire space for many years.

After they lost their lease, the larger space was split, and Godfather’s moved in on the end and, IIRC, Volume Shoe Source was the first business to occupy the other space.

bsmomma, I’m vaguely remembering 5 Star, but having trouble picturing it’s exact location.

How about HERFY’s where West Seattle Nursery is on Calif. and where Jack-in-the-Box is on Admiral. and NIFTY’s on Harbor Island, Fred Meyer where Safeway is on Roxbury and the DOL in the Roxbury Lanes parking lot where I took my driving test. Am I showing my age yet or just memory capabilities?

    I ate at Fong Fong’s.

Great food, at a cheap price. Just not much on atmosphere! ;-) It was where the current teriyaki place is, between the former Liberty Bell, and former skinny laundromat.

Hi-Hat was where Cayce & Gain had a long time office, near Amante.

I also have very fond memories of Mac’s. That was on the usual route to/from school at Lafayette.

Never ate @ the Fong Fong…never really saw anyone eat there. I remember that there were always dirty windows and unhealthy geraniums in the window. Always thought it was a “front” for something else. Also remember Hay’s Meat Market next to Huskeys.

Fong Fong’s had the best wonton soup! The soup had barbequed pork slices, greens and wontons. .

    Definitely strange atomosphere.

I ate at Fong Fongs! Really great food, not so great atmosphere. The owner spent much time staring and glaring. Odd.

emerysparkles-I remember your dad! If you were a teenager in the late 1970s you had two choices of where to go to buy your 45s in the junction; Pennylane or Turnabout. I always thought Turnabout was nicer because your dad was friendly regardless of the amount of money you had to spend. I had one of the Turnabout logo tank tops with the persian cat and record player on the front. Wish I had kept it, it would have been cool and vintage now.
