CindertangParticipantI was at Walgreen’s on 35th yesterday and a well dressed father type figure came up to me and asked if I liked gold, He said his wife kicked him out and he needed money to buy a bus ticket out of here. He then pulled out a little bag with some very heavy gold chains in it that he wanted to sell for 45 dollars. When I said I didn’t have 45 dollars he asked how much I had , I told him I only had plastic which made him very upset, he then stalked off. I just wanted to warn the older folks in west Seattle don’t buy the chains from this individual as I believe they are the fake gold kind. Other wise if they were real he could get alot more than 45 dollars at a pawn shop.

anonymeParticipantDid you report this to police? How do you know the chains were not stolen? What this guy was doing is illegal either way…

RagsParticipantJust curious….what did he do that is illegal?

anonymeParticipantYou can’t sell merchandise on the street without a permit – nor can you do it on the sly inside another business. It should be obvious that selling stolen goods is illegal…

Jd seattleParticipantNot illegal on private property unless the owner of the property ask you to leave and you refuse. You’re also assuming items were stolen. While there’s a fair chance they were, you don’t know that for sure.

anonymeParticipantNeither do you.
The store management should have been notified, and the cops called. There is absolutely nothing about this behavior that suggests legitimacy.
If the items were indeed stolen (as they most likely were) it would seem more logical to try and help the victims rather than the perp. But hey, this is Seattle; that’s not how things work here. This argument is ridiculous.

Jd seattleParticipantI’m not condoning the behavior, just correcting misinformation.

jissyParticipantJust had this same experience – I was at the laundromat next to Fred Meyer in Burien washing some comforters and a well dressed older man came in and his story was something to the effect of the tire shop (at the other end of the Fred meyer parking lot) had his car and he was short $ xx.00 and he had 1 hour to settle the bill or it was being impounded or something to that effect so would you please buy the necklace I just bought my so-and-so for Christmas off me? Think he too was asking $45.00. He was walking up to most all the patrons at the laundromat but not getting much traction.
