anonymeParticipantYesterday I received a letter from a Mark Schmale of Heaton Dainard real estate wanting to purchase my property for quick cash (flipping). Has anyone else received one of these letters? Either a yes or a no answer would be helpful, with your approximate location. I’m in the 35th corridor of Arbor Heights.
Aside from the implied insult (these folks often buy foreclosures and derelict properties – mine is neither, unless small and modest has become a crime) I’m suspicious about the timing of these letters. More later, if and when a pattern develops…
Thanks in advance for any input.

seaopgalParticipantWe’ve received 2-3 of this type of letter over the past few years (WS Junction) … maybe not from the same people. I treat it like any cold sales call, i.e., ignore.

GinaParticipantI get two to three of those type letters every year since 1997. Sometimes they include a quit claim deed. Admiral area. They aren’t from the same person or company. Put them through the shredder for securities sake.

JimmyGMemberNot the particular letter you got, but we’ve owned in the area (Seaview) since 1995 and on average receive one of these letters once a year.
Like noted above I treat it as any other cold call technique.
Are you somehow bothered by receiving the letter?

squareeyesParticipantYup, I got a letter from him a few days ago as well – Seaview. I’ve got a crappy warbox on a large lot so it’s a McMansion developer’s dream, so that’s probably what they’re targeting. I’ll be holding onto this jewel-yet-to-be-mined for the long haul.

anonymeParticipantI wasn’t so much interested in the generic realtor letters looking for listings. I get those too, and just shred or return them as others have mentioned doing. This letter was of a different timbre.
I was curious because of some very targeted vandalism and was trying to determine if there were any connection. A long shot, but the arrival of the letter seemed highly coincidental. Based on what squareeyes had to say, it looks like it was just that – a coincidence.
Case closed – thanks for the replies.

HunterGParticipantI’m so tired of these cracker boxes everywhere. Pure greed shoving three homes on a single family plot. I have three going up not more than 100 feet from my home.
Hold your ground homeowners!

mtnfreakParticipantFor what its worth, my wife and I are very interested in purchasing a home but the median home price is the top end of our available budget right now. I wrote a personal letter to the owner of a property that has sat empty for the past year, and appeared to be under a bit a renovation, and voila: he contacted me back, and we’re currently in the middle of making a complete renovation estimate in order to discuss purchasing.
So sometimes, those letters are for real!
