Does anyone have a resource they’ve used for grinding/leveling concrete sidewalks? I have a couple of areas that need this due to slabs being lifted from tree roots. Online searches lead me to endless “fill in your info for a quote” pages and would love to hear from someone who has actually had the work done. Thanks!

I don’t have a resource, but i do have a suggestion. Check with the city to see if your sidewalk is on their schedule…if not, maybe you can get it on. I walk all around West Seattle and have noticed many sidewalks have been worked on by a crew of grinders. I am honestly impressed with how many sidewalks have been done.

I 2nd sbone. I don’t know if the “find it fix it” site is appropriate for this, might be easiest to call SDOT and find out what city resources there are. They may also have a list of capable contractors that could do the work.

Thanks for the replies. SDOT only repairs sidewalks that are adjacent to city property, are near a bus stop, city owned trees causing damage, etc. The rest are the responsibility of the property owner. I think I have a resource though. Thanks again!

Please post if you find a reliable resource for grinding. It’s my understanding that any discontinuity over 1/2 inch should be repaired and that any height differences greater than 1 inch (which isn’t much) can not be ground down as that affects the integrity and strength of the cement. If it can’t be ground down then it is supposed to be replaced. The city of Seattle has a pretty good .pdf file called “Client Assistance Memo (CAM) 2208” that explains it all and even has pictures. I completely understand that you’ve already determined you need to take action – I’m just providing this information to others that may not know.
