Community Center Pre-K Programs

I have looked around and came to realization that the local pre-schools are expensive (for us). I have looked at the curriculum for the Great Start Pre School @ Delridge CC and Small Scholars Pre School at High Point CC and they’re similar. Has anyone had experience with either program? Thanks!

I don’t have an answer for you, but another suggestion: the co-op preschools affiliated with SSCC are a remarkable resource. You will learn as much as your child will–skills, knowledge, and networking you’ll be grateful for for years (decades?) to come.

Thanks Julie! I would LOVE to be in the position to be in the class room one day a week at the school. But unfortunately, financially it just can’t happen.:( I have heard GREAT things about that pre-school.

I’m looking for Part Time Tuesday Thursday for a 4 year old. I have heard GREAT things about the Little Pilgrims as well. Last time I checked they had a “Closed” waiting list. Learning Ladder @ Hiawatha has a waiting list too. The other places I checked out that have openings for what I’m looking for are more than double in price for 1/2 hour less a day than the C.C. programs. From the research I’ve done, they all pretty much have the same “focus” as far as the curriculum.

The Small Scholars Academy at High Point Community Center still has openings available. Roxanne is the teacher and she is amazing. She has a Masters Degree in Education and experience teaching middle school and also Head Start Programs. She is using the Reggio Emilia and Creative Curriculum to teach. It is offered M/W/F or T/Th and you can choose from a morning or afternoon program. The pricing is actually less than Delridge (or other West Seattle CC’s) when you take into account that the program at Delridge is 3 hours long and the one at High Point is 3 1/2 hours long. The price is also prorated for September. Regardless of what you decide, I hope that your child has a wonderful time in preschool!

There is a new and unique pre-school starting up at the Seattle Children’s Playgarden. It’s not in W. Seattle but it’s fairly close though.

My son is at the Great Start program (Delridge) and I couldn’t be happier. My family toured several preschools and spoke with many reps at the preschool fair in February, and decided the Delridge program gave us a quality curriculum, awesome facility (the kids use the playground, dance studio, and gym in addition to their classroom), and culturally interesting setting for, as you noted, about half the price of other preschools around here. Oh, another selling point for us was that Great Start runs year round and NOT on the Seattle Schools schedule, as most other preschools do. Not having to pay tuition during winter and spring vacations made the cost even more appealing.

Agree with previous posters…. SSCC Co-op programs are amazing and less expensive than drop off. We’ve been involved with co-op for over 5 years and can’t sing its praises enough. I highly recommend it (both for the kids as well as the parent education aspect of it!).
