I decided to start a separate thread for this as it’s just too shocking to let slide. This is related to the growing problem of pet sales and free animals on Craig’s List, but kind of in a category by itself.

I just came across an ad for coats made out of dalmation puppy pelts. The ad describes how spots develop as the puppy grows, so that you can choose to have the pelts harvested at any stage you like. I thought I’d seen it all; I thought Cruella was a cartoon character, but apparently she’s real. Check out the link:

so, doesn’t this warrant being reported? I truly have no idea what our laws are regarding this, but if it’s not illegal, it should be. :(

Removed isn’t good enough. That will temporarily stop the ad, but not the practice. I’m hoping to get it investigated.

    Jan, thanks for getting involved.

I thought this was a joke. Maybe it is, but how sick can a person be?

This could well be a hoax, but I’m not taking any chances. How sick can you be.

Just posted on the other thread as well; I think this is a hoax. Cruella DeVile just in time for Halloween anyone?

Our illustrious own Ms. Hammerhead just graciously talked me down and convinced me (with many details only she could know) that this is a hoax. I’m still gonna get it flagged off. Definitely not amused.

BTW, I’d already flagged about 30 new pet sale ads when I found this one, so feel free to flag those, too!

Saw it a few minutes ago on the other thread, and reported it.

I have a great, oftentimes even a bit dark, sense of humor, didn’t find that too funny.

Sickeningly real, or a hoax, it’s not a legit ad. (IMHO)

I do believe this is more likely a hoax.

AS far as for cat and dog hair being illegal as far as trading. By no means does it not make to the clothing people choose to wear.

Winter time is here, those nice warm jackets with hoods on them, that have the fur trim that is DOG hair, it is just “labeled” coyote from tiawan. (Yes I know some of it fake, but I can spot the real trim a mile away)just read the labels:)

I’m sure it’s a hoax too, but the sad truth is that a backyard breeder can apparently get around $700 – $800 for a living Dalmatian puppy. I doubt they’d sell them for fur. A cruel joke in any case.
