raindance42MemberI’m looking for a board game store, something with a wider selection (specifically fantasy/adventure board games) than you’d find at Target or Barnes and Noble. Is there anything like this in West Seattle or Burien? Thanks for any help you can give!

JustSarahParticipantYes, check out Arcane Comics on California, just south of Hanford. They have a pretty good selection of fantasy/adventure board games in the back of the store. The employees are very helpful, too, and they have open versions of every game for you to look at (or they’ll open one for you, if needed.)

KimberleyParticipantNot in West Seattle, but Uncle’s Games has a fantastic selection: http://www.unclesgames.com/ there’s one in Tukwila.

DMcGMemberI think the the co-owner of Arcane Comics who is more of the gaming person works there either Sunday and Monday or Monday and Tuesday. If they don’t have what you’re looking for or can’t get it in time check out Blue Highway Games at the top of Queen Anne. It’s a great store with all types of games.

JustSarahParticipantYes, I think DmcG is right, because I went there with a friend on a Sunday and got a lot of input and help from the guy working that day. Very friendly, certainly not pushy; he knew his way around the games and had different reasons for recommending each one, depending on interests, age, past game experience, number of players, etc.

raindance42MemberThank you SarahScoot and DMcG! I will check out Arcane Comics today. My husband wants a specific game that has been hard to find so far.
Kimberley: Thanks for the recommendation for Uncle’s Games. I’ll keep them in mind if I strike out at Arcane Comics but for now I am hoping to avoid mall traffic!

maplesyrupParticipantArcane Comics has a decent but not extensive selection. They’re nice people though and personally, I want to support a store like that in W. Seattle.
If they don’t have what you want I’d recommend Blue Highway as well. It’s an amazing store and the owners try to help the community by doing business with local vendors and helping local schools with fundraisers. And again, it’s an amazing store.

QueMemberI would totally echo the recommendation of Uncle’s Games. An eyepoppingly wonderful selection of all genres of gaming goodness. It is really worth a mall trip.
There is also Goodie Gumdrops at the corner of 152nd and Ambaum. It is mostly geared towards a young set, but they have a good selection of board games and and I bet they would order anything you might want.

maplesyrupParticipantbtw what game did your husband want?
December 14, 2009 at 10:27 pm #684067
raindance42MemberIt is Descent: Journeys in the Dark. We already have bunches of other fantasy and adventure board games, and this one is the latest one to catch his eye. I think I can probably order it online if I need to but would rather support a local business and avoid shipping hassles.

maplesyrupParticipantThat’s supposed to be a good game, and I think I saw it in Arcane yesterday. :)
(yes I’m a geek)

JulieMemberI would check Arcane first (as you said, we need to support our local games sources!) Blue Highway does not have their inventory online, but if you call and they don’t have it, Berserk Games http://www.berserkgames.com does list it in their online inventory (but I’d call to verify, first). They’re at 7217 Greenwood Ave N, and there’s also Gary’s Games, also in Greenwood (store inventory not online). Both are good sources of a wide variety of games.
And remember the Friends of Southwest Library are hosting another Board Game Afternoon January 10th at the branch!

kellymParticipantI don’t know the name of the store but there is a games store in Crossroads Mall that has a vast assortment of all kinds of games. I know it’s a ‘mall’ but a bit off the beaten path of the larger ones.

raindance42MemberHi all! Thanks for your help. I checked out Arcane Comics, and it turns out the Descent game they have in stock is the expansion and not the main game, which is what I needed. Cool store though, if I were into comics. I’ll probably take my brother there next time he’s in town.
I ended up at Uncle’s Games at Southcenter and they had the game! They have a lot of great games in a deceptively small storefront. I was able to go in the morning today so the mall was not too crazy like it would probably be on a weekend.

bansheeMemberI can definitely recommend Green Lake Games up on Aurora (across from PCC, 7509 Aurora Ave N, http://www.greenlakegames.com/). I’m a regular at their Wednesday night gaming sessions. I’ve seen people playing Descent a few times. (It’s not a common game though, since it tends to be a bit heavy for a weeknight session)
