LisaParticipantI’ve been looking on Craigslist for a craft/sewing table for a little while and thinking how great it would be to have a section on the WestSeattleBlog Forums dedicated to ‘Barters/Trades’. Any chance this could be explored? Has anyone tried this in our community in the past??
Lisa :)

clark5080ParticipantSounds interesting

CarolPBMemberI’ve been wondering about a WS blog version of Freecycle, myself-kind of the same idea?
February 9, 2010 at 4:53 am #688122
JanSParticipantyou mean something like Freecycleseattle, a Yahoo group? I’ve used that quite a bit. It’s not West Seattle specific, but you have to put the location in the subject line, so can ignore/delete things from the rest of the city. I would suggest a separate e-mail address for this, though, as you could get quite a few e-mails. And you can post wanteds , too.
It would be wonderful to have something that is West Seattle specific, but something like that needs to be moderated..and would the editors really have time for that?

inactiveMemberYeah, sounds interesting to me too at this point. I recall mention of an online barter site mentioned here but don’t recall the name. JanS seemed to know alot about that, if I remember correctly.
Edit: JanS – you are quick!

JanSParticipantand if anyone has a business, even if just you, and just self-employed, check out http://www.dibspace.com. It’s a local barter site, mostly used for business transactions, but you can post “wants” there, too. It’s pretty interesting. If you join tell ’em Massage For Wellbeing sent ya ! :)

CarolPBMemberGood point, Jan. I always think part of the point of Freecycle is to not pollute the planet, which is why I always try to keep it in WS when I do post there. But where better than the blog to keep things in WS!

WSBKeymasterIt’s been brought up before and a few people said, well, there’s already Freecycle, etc. But that’s why we started the Freebies/Deals/Sales section, so people could post such things. I’d be all for making it Freebies/Deals/Sales/Trades/Barters for starters if there’s interest. Kind of all fits under the same theme.

LisaParticipantI would love to see this take shape! It would be great to ‘keep it local’ instead of posting wares on eBay/etc!!
We all need/have stuff in day to day life… that has little or nothing to do with what we do ‘for a living’!

EmmyJaneParticipantI’m such a West Seattle snob that whenever I’m browsing furniture on Craigslist I always think “West Seattle has the best furniture.” This would save me lots of time not having to look at the junk the rest of the city has. :-) snob.

LisaParticipantHey Emma Jane… I’m not sure if ‘snobbery’ is my MO… but I actually search ‘___ west seattle’ in my Craigslist searches! I figure if it’s a neighbor… and easy access… it would work well all ’round!!

LisaParticipant… to further explain what I’m getting at…
I’m not looking for a platform to get the most ‘$$ bang for my buck’! For example, I have a great SLR film camera/lenses that I don’t use any longer… I know I could get decent $ for it on eBay or whatever… but I’d rather be able to trade it to someone local for a craft/sewing table :) I have a Pilates machine and I’d rather have ??

MargLMemberYes, please!
I just posted to CL about needing some bricks or cinder blocks for building raised beds and thought about asking in the forums, here but wasn’t sure where to post it… Can we post “looking for freebies” in the “Freebies” section? I’ve got lots of veggie seeds to trade… Cuttings from a cape fuschia?

WSBKeymasterOK. Well, let’s add the categorization then. Also note – for Craigslist browsing fans – our awkwardly titled MORE page (currently MORE NEWS on the tab because I needed to fill some space till something else new debuts) has the latest 100 West Seattle-tagged CL entries on it. (Minus personals.)
