BBGuestMemberAfter having one tooth cost almost $4,000 (yes really) and more work needed in the not too distant future, I would like to know if someone has experienced a dental vacation to Mexico? Thanks.

transplantellaParticipantCan’t answer your Mexico question. But my experience here so far–is that Seattle has the most expensive dentistry I’ve ever seen. Anywhere.
In the world.
I had a brilliant dentist in Dallas, all the bells and whistles, and the charges were about half what any procedure costs here.
You might consider other places in America where fees are more reasonable.
(I’d be happy to provide the Dallas doc’s info)

EscondidoMemberThis isn’t direct experience, but a co-worker went to a dentist in Mexico that was recommended to her. Spent a week there about five years ago and has been busy replacing most of the work he had done.

FullTiltParticipantMy Parents live five miles from the border in Arizona, and both have had extensive dental work done there. They have been very happy with the work.

Admiral935ParticipantThe U.W. Dental School has been great to my teeth over the years. They do top notch work but they take a lot longer than a regular dentist – meaning multiple trips instead fewer. You may have to wait for awhile to get in with a student or, they also have an emergency dental section.

BBGuestMemberThank you all so much. I am going to try dental insurance and see if it is as good as it says it is.
A friend has had it for years and actually pays what the schedule says. The work I had done would have been less than $1,000. The best news is it is less than $18.00 a month!

blissMember522 7320. There is a dental school near lake city way. A cleaning was 50.oo I need to call and find out what a crown would cost. The cleaning was done by the teacher.-i refused xray and dr check. That would have been another 50. My regular dentist-quoted me 100+ For a cleaning (no insurance anymore) The student just observes. No long waits as U of WA. I suggest you go on your mexican vacation and forget about your dental work when you are there!!! Happy hour is the only thing you should concentrate your efforts on. Stay away from Cabo San Lucas. Its 2x the price of US if not more!!

BBGuestMemberSorry I didn’t check back earlier. Got my insurance and had my first appointment. I am amazed at the difference. Wasn’t expertly guided to the payment area after my cleaning, thorough evaluation and treatment plan. Great news is… the $4,000 root canal crown doctor who said I needed another one… well I don’t.
It is Dental Health Services. I was able to get in with Dr. Herrin on California Ave.(love him and the staff were friendly and professional, and there is a garden view from all the rooms). I had seen him a few years back so was accepted even though he is closed to new patients.

BBGuestMemberFor the first time in a very long time, I felt like I mattered and would get the best available treatment regardless of my bank account.
I hung around the reception area after the visit to see how much I had to pay. I was kind of lost! I have been conditioned to expect the first questions to be about how I am going to pay for services, and certainly not allowed to walk out before passing the payment area. I don’t even know if this office HAS a payment area.

CarolPBMemberJust remember, folks, this is a prepaid capitation plan, which means the DDS gets paid usually around $30.00/ month per person. The office has to manage appointments to make sure they break even. I think there may be copays based on the procedure performed. I have not dealt with this type of insurance in a few years, so the amount the DDS gets could be higher now. The first office I worked at that was a member of about 4 of these types of plans limited the number of patients we were allowed to schedule each day. Unless an emergency, it could take longer than normal to get an appointment. Then you are stuck, because you cannot go anywhere other than your assigned office.

CarolPBMemberBut-I’m glad you had a great experience! Maybe these plans have improved.
