Okay, I love Husky Deli. I love their ice cream, I love their sandwiches, I love their raspberry filled homemade scones that are incredibly yummy, and Jack is probably the nicest close talker in West Seattle…but, the place needs a clean bathroom, a good dusting and new floors. There, I said it, it’s time for sprucing up the place, IMHO.

I’ve never had an issue with the hours of operation, works fine for me. Husky Deli is the essence of West Seattle. Jack and his family are so generous with our schools, local charities and sports teams. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a fundraiser where something wasn’t donated by Husky Deli.

little rave for their Spumoni? Yummalicious.

well, geez,I had a whole long paragraph written, and poof, it went away. I’ll make it short…I’m off the morphine, now on oxycodone/tylenol…less loopy. I’ve had a constant hot flash since after the surgery…they say it’s my body metabolizing the anesthesia – annoying, to say the least. It’s not too terribly painful…just in the muscles in the frony of the thigh…quadricep muscles…they were torqued around pretty good.

The food is delish…room service on demand..tonite I’ll repeat what I had Tuesday evening…grilled salmon fillet in a warm cranberry vinaigrette sauce, broccoli, jaasmine, small salad, iced tea…and for dessert…angle food cake with fresh berries…yummmmmm…

Hopefully, I will be going home on Friday…that’s the plan so far..not exactly easy finding a ride when the time is up in the air…

    that’s about it..nurses are really nice,competant..no cute orderlies :(

and…the sun is shining…it’s gotta be a good day :)

    here we go again…

if there is a wide gap between those who have in our society.. and those who work hard to have something…

there seems to be an even wider gap between those who work hard to have something and those who may also work hard and still have nothing.

Ok.. that was a diplomatic way to say that although some of you may think your financial situations were tough.. and you wised up and changed them.. you have no idea what tough is.

What if you have already given up the coffees and the dinners out and the new clothes… and the car… and the new furniture… and… ?

what if you have never purchased anything new in your life… bought everything second hand… didn’t splurge… never took a vacation… don’t drink.. don’t drive… take your own lunch… etc… and you still don’t have the money to do anything other than rent.. and often share rentals at that… ?

Yup, you can be a hardworking person in our society and live exactly that life… barely scraping together enough money to exist.. and hope against hope that nothing happens to make it impossible for you to work.. even for a week or two… because there is no safety net.. no savings… no family.. no friends…

now imagine you are living like that and raising children as well…

or… imagine you are older.. on a fixed income that doesn’t rise with inflation… yet food, rent, medications.. just keep going up.

Imagine you had spent most of your adult life making a home and raising an family and your husband decides he would like a newer and younger model and by the way he doesn’t want the responsibility of raising a family…

Oops… life just changed. You just became poor because he didn’t honor the commitments he made that you made your life choices based on…

Imagine you are working and prospering… and one day you get ill.. and they can’t figure out what is wrong.. and you don’t die and you don’t get better and you are way to sick to work.

Now imagine that the disability insurance you paid for determines that your condition is psychological… in spite of your having no history of psychological illness.. because there is no definitive physiological test for your illness.

Oops.. your life just changed.. all because you got ill and your insurance didn’t cover you the way it was supposed to.

What some of you don’t seem to understand is that you can make good choices.. you can prosper.. you can do everything right… and still s..t happens…

Your company gets bought out.. the economy tanks and suddenly you find yourself without a job… you fall off the waterski and puncture your lung as you land.. suddenly narrowing your options…

    life happens…

and it can happen to you as easily as to the rest of us…

no matter how well you make our choices.

funny how one can’t sleep before something like this. It’s 3:40am, and my ride will be here at 5am to whisk me off to hospital heaven. I thought I’d drop by here one last time to say…thank you, thank you, thank you….and WSMom…I can’t wait for soup…it’s soooo yummy.

Thanks to Charlabob’s laptop, I will report in, drugged stupor and all. Does everyone want a blow by blow description? Did I mention that it won’t ge a general anesthesia? lol…it will definitely be exciting…

JT…I may need those brownies sooner than you think ;-)

    OK…gonna go pretend to rest a little…

it really is nice to be part of a community like this…and karma is a good thing…and you all have really really good karma coming your way :)

    NR and TheHouse…

The legislation currently in place does not adequately protect for wage discrimination.

do you know why this bill was proposed?

the supreme court ruled that if you don’t know about wage discrimination within the first 180 days of employment.. and therefore don’t file.. you have no case.. thereby gutting the existing law.

tell me.. do you know what your fellow employees make?

Probably not unless you have been there a long time or unless you work in a union shop.

this bill would take the 180 day limit out of the law…

    that’s why it’s important…

and.. by the way.. it’s not just important to women. It’s important to anyone who ages… or anyone of color.. or…

    thanks TheHouse for providing this:)

“DO YOU KNOW THAT I FOR EVERY WOMAN THAT IS UNDERPAID COMPARED TO THEIR MALE COUNTERPARTS THAT I COULD PROBABLY SHOW YOU THREE TO TEN MEN THAT ARE UNDERPAID COMPARED TO SIMILAR COUNTERPARTS??”

Yup.. i did know.. but did most of the people who are buying the rhetoric behind killing this bit of wage discrimination?

does your employer practice age/sex/race discrimination in wages?

    How would you know?

Do you think you should have no rights under the law if you fail to document this in your first 180 days of employment?

    Something to think about.

it’s too easy to let rhetoric lull you into not actually thinking this one through…

    Kayleigh…

again.. i have to applaud your reasoning.

i would add …the unacknowledged cost of medicine is the industry that has grown to manage insurance programs.. creating several more profit centers in medicine which are doing quite well…

if the only profit centers we supported were actual medical care and primary insurance.. medical care would be a lot cheaper.

and… a minor detail that should be far more important to most people.. we would get better medical care.

Our health stats are not among the best in the world… For all the noise that people make about “socialized medicine”.. their outcome measures far surpass ours.

and for those who think those outcome measures are tweaked to support one style of medical care over another… the outcome measure they use is survival…

yup… good old life and death.

we pay more here and die more from the same causes…

    that’s what i call a bad deal.

Yup…Hotwire is simply the best coffee in town. I recently had to stop the coffee (dr’s orders), and the gang their went out of their way to try lots of cool tea combinations to keep me happy (and ,yes…a Mexican Hot Chocolate serves its purpose well)…

oh..next time..try either the SWISS chocolate (DROOOOL), or the Sugar Free Monin chocolate. It’s prefectly delicious.

Just a note that 1) I LOVE THEIR COFFEE 2) the people in there are always nice and friendly.

The Mexican Mocha is so delicious and today I had some kind of frozen something and YUM.

The servers seemed a little glum and when I asked, they said they’d just been besieged by a group og 35 people who ordered tons of drinks, no please nor thank-you, and left a total tip of $1.50!

So I thought Hotwire deserved my rave today!

Yup, Jerald, the very same — proves I was, in fact, bipartisan at one point, that Republicans used to be reasonable, and that I’m very old (even though I was a mere child when I worked for the Brooke campaign). He was known then as a flirt. (Was that a more innocent time, or what?)

We just went to Happy Garden in Burien last week, which we really liked. It got several good reviews on yelp.com, which is why we went there. You can read the reviews at http://tinyurl.com/68hb7n

It’s at 14301 Ambaum. It reminded me more of chinese food I would get back in NYC, which is probably why I liked it.

    >>I don’t trust him and I’m scared for this >>country if he were to win (I’m pretty sure he >>won’t). Those feelings have nothing to do with >>his middle name (or his skin color, >>villagegreen).

Yup, bring on them senile rich white guys any day. At least they’re predictable. They’ll get more and more — some of us, who happen to be of the same class, will get some more. And everyone else will get by–because they can.

NR, if you and the other Repugs can look at what the Bush/Cheney cabal has done to this country over the past 8 years, and claim to be afraid of Obama, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I can only hope you’re being duplicitous and metaphorical.

“JoB, dont post videos of something “proving” your point if you dont expect them to be disproven.”

First.. i would ask exactly what was disproven?

Did Obama hang his message on one bill? Yup he did. But it was still his message…

I actually did some digging.. and i could find reference several places to an article following that speech in which Obama tied a timeline for withdrawal of troops to his willingness to fund the Iraq war…

a commitment he ignored until congress gave Bush a timeline and Bush vetoed it… oh.. and he was committed to running for president.

but.. i don’t post links to references to another article… and to reach the original article (in the Chicago Tribune files, i think) to find out exactly what it said would cost big dollars that i am not willing to spend for this…

(i do know the article or comments were in response to a survey in that publication.)

or it would cost me big time.. if the archives of that paper are on file at the main library… which i am also not able to spend.

i might.. because i am a stubborn woman who really is willing do the research and admit when i am wrong. all you have to do is check the political threads here and you will find evidence of that.

but.. my body won’t let me spend the time and my pocketbook won’t let me spend the money..

so at this point all we have is unproven… not disproven… and there is a difference.

to disprove you would have had to have found evidence of Senator Obama saying AT THE TIME that he meant only to censure funding of that particular bill and not funding for the Iraq war.

I guarantee you won’t find that anywhere since he was running from Chicago.. where they actually passed an anti-Iraq war resolution… which is why he was pressed for an answer on that question in the first place…

that difference matters because the discussion of his “stance” on the war isn’t over…the Republican press has taken it up and they will think the dollars to search archives chump change.

They will bother because his lack of honesty about his waffling stance on this war speaks to character for the older voter… and there are a lot of older voters.. and they vote.

but moreover… they think his youth vote is predicated on his distancing himself from choosing stances based on their political ramifications.

I had no trouble finding articles on this subject.. his anti-war stance… in the republican press… i don’t post links to those sources to verify information… if i did.. you would be wading through a bunch of links.

I had no trouble finding articles highly critical of Senator Obama in the black press either… and those go way beyond his tendency to choose the politically expedient position…

They actually cite the DNL’s (i am not sure i got the last intitial right.. the insiders everyone makes noises about..) interest in Obama and his inclusion on a list in 2002 (i think) of rising political stars… and his connections to that group.

It would probably do you all a world of good to actually read some of those.. from both sources… so you have some idea what you will be facing if he is our nominee… because the republican press will have a field day quoting the sources from within the black press..

As to when i will support Obama.. i have answered that clearly. I will support him when he is our nominee.

My reason is clear.. nearly half of the democratic party doesn’t think he is the right person for the job… and they have demonstrated that by voting for Senator Clinton.

one reason for that is that he is not pulling votes from groups he will need to carry to pull off a democratic victory this fall.

I don’t think he is the man you think he is… but more important than that… I don’t think he can win… and not because he is black.

I don’t think he can win because he remains an intellectual… and we all saw just how long the American press is willing to wait for the conclusion of a soundbite with John Kerry’s campaign. by the time the press got through with him.. democrats didn’t even like him…

I will do anything in my power to create a democratic presidency this fall.. and that includes supporting Obama if he is our nominee…

but he has to be our nominee first.

Any of the grocery stores have ’em, if you get there early enough to scarf up 2 dozen. I think QFC’s (at Westwood Village) are the best. The Original Bakery just around the corner from the Fauntleroy ferry dock has good donuts, too, but I’m not sure what time they open. Then there’s Krispy Kreme (yuck for me) on 1st Ave near the stadiums if you’re headed in that direction.
