R.e. Parentof2’s comment: I think the price is warranted. Rent is high on Alki, they use high quality, local ingredients, and they are well staffed. If you remove any one of those factors, they could easily charge Elliot Bay Brewery prices. Remove two of those and they could charge far less. When we went, we got what we paid for: high quality food and unintrusive but thorough service.

JoB- did you approach Dukes and tell them you are unimpressed for the sane reasons as Micael Waldo, and give them the opportunity to impress you? What action did they take? Did Dukes attempt to rectify the situation? Were you satisfied by their attempts to resolve, or did you offer them any recommendations to better serve you? If your security is in question, you may wish to join the Dukes protection program.

    Michael Waldo..

Jan is right.. the rant and rave section is not the place for this review.

cut and paste your rant and move it to Restaurant reviews where it belongs.

Duke’s needs to hear this. I used to love Duke’s but i don’t go there any more for the same reasons that you found yourself unimpressed.

Second: Rants and Raves rules. This folds in what had been in a sticky on that section index (little-seen because most use the forum home page rather than the forum section indexes).

If you are posting a rant about a business, YOU MUST SAY WHAT STEPS YOU TOOK FIRST TO NOTIFY ITS OWNERSHIP/MANAGEMENT. If you took those steps and still want to tell the world, fine, but this is NOT the place to come just to rag on a business without having let them know directly.

If you tried but could not get through – include that info, because that’s a helpful part of your story.

If you feel your safety or security is in jeopardy if you tell them, that sounds like grounds for a news story rather than a forum post and you are welcome to e-mail us – editor@westseattleblog.com is the address. Another option would be to spray them with a hose. Not a high powered one that might hurt them of course but just spraying with water to make them uncomfortable. After a couple of times they’ll figure out that it’s just not worth it.

    Just my two cents!

Forgive me for piggybacking on this, but I have a friend in Wallingford who’s also looking for a house rental ASAP, although anywhere in Seattle. Her home is being sold to developers and she has to move, but she is having difficulty finding anything because she and her husband have 5 children (ages 4 months to 9 years). She has been answering ads on Craigslist and everywhere else she can find, and when she gets there, they say they don’t want to rent to someone with that many children. She’s looking for a 3+ bedroom house, preferably in north Seattle (but almost anywhere at this point). Doesn’t have to be big, but would like a yard, and under $2,800/mo. They have no pets. If anybody knows of a landlord who won’t illegally discriminate against a house full of kids, I can put you in touch with her. You can contact me at butterflybalance at gmail. Thanks.

JoB, actually this very study challenges your suggestion about widespread increased greening:
“In some Mediterranean-type ecosystems such as annual-dominated California grasslands, warming has accelerated the decline of canopy greenness because the effects of reduced transpiration losses push the canopy to an earlier senescence26. These facts indicate that the positive effect of CO2 induced water savings may eventually be offset by the negative effect of CO2 induced temperature increases when the temperature increase crosses a certain threshold. Further understanding of this complex feedback process is required.”

By coincidence, this study in a Nature Letter strives to identify regions that are sensitive to climate variability including forests in which temperature elevations can reach a point of depressing vegetative growth. sensitivity to climate variability

I’m sorry this man “jerked-out” on you. He sounds like a sad, small minded, shallow person desperately overcompensating and failing miserably at it. It’s cold comfort to you, but a small validation all the same

To the guy with the receding hairline and light silver BMW who raged in the middle of a residential road. You’re a sad little dude and all your neighbors know it.

Sorry, had to get that rant off my chest. You are the second dude I’ve encountered today who was AGGRESSIVE in a vehicle. Your driving scared me and was absurd. I honked and braked in shock. You actually had the temerity to stop your car, get out and yell at me after I stopped. I wish I’d been swifter getting my phone. Seriously, you have some anger issues. (And your car is not making up for your deficits.)

the line between private banking and bank speculation needs to re-established. As it is now if your bank is failing .. you deposits are considered their assets… and that’s not a good thing.

i wish i could say that all credit unions are better but too many of them have moved into the fast financial lane :(

But, this cannot be ! ?

After analyzing 45 studies from eight countries, Lixin Wang, assistant professor of earth sciences in the School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and a Ph.D. student in Wang’s group, Xuefei Lu, concluded the greening likely stems from the impact of rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide on plant water savings and consequent increases in available soil water.

“ We know from satellite observations that vegetation is greener than it was in the past, ” Wang said. “ We now understand why that’s occurring,

but we don’t necessarily know if that’s a good thing or not

    . ”

Of course, the ” agenda ” dictates that the usual disclaimer be appended to any summary, thus ensuring continued publishing, grant funding and appeasement of those ” settled ” scientists.

Have they looked in Arbor Heights? There is usually a few rentals there and that is in the Southern side of WS and just a bit south of Fauntleroy. I live in Fauntleroy and have not seen any but if I see something I’ll post. Good luck!

A good friend in WS is desperate for a home to rent starting April 1. Needs to be 3 bdr. 1 & 3/4 ba. and of decent size – preferably 2400 sq.ft. or larger. Garage would be nice as would a gas stove but hey, those are nice-to-haves. Rent negotiable based on the place.

Would like to stay in the southern half of town and Fauntleroy would be ideal – but again, that’s just best case scenario.

Really, really, REALLY good tenants. Super clean and respectful. Cat friendly please?

Just plain desperate, haven’t found anything and have been looking for a while.

Greatly appreciate passing this around should you know any options whatsoever?

    Many thank you’s!!

They do ticket for wrong way parking. This was a few years ago, but there was snow on the road, I was going down California and hit some ice just before Othello and spun, ended up on the east side of the street, as if I had intentionally parked there. I really thought I’d done well though, I wasn’t blocking a driveway or a bus stop. I figured once the ice and snow melted under my car and/or the hill, I could get it out of there.

The next day I had a ticket that indicated if it was not moved within x hours, it would be towed. I ended up hiring tow truck to pull me out and turn the car so it was headed down hill. My next stop was Courtesy Tire for snow tires.. :)

I did challenge it and it was dismissed. But really?? I couldn’t believe that in those circumstances it was ticketed. It seemed obvious why it was there.

While I love the Sanctuary idea, you might also want to consider the Fauntleroy community center. People often book the church across the street for the wedding, then cross to the center for the reception and party. Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes does the catering and they do a great job.

KBear is right: You can’t see oncoming traffic properly AND if you do start to pull out and hit another car, it is a head to head crunch, not a glancing side blow. This causes a lot more damage to both cars.
