If I’m not on the bridge by 6:15 am, it’s a parking lot headed into town via I5, 4th Avenue or the Viaduct. Columbia Way is choked off anymore. Yesterday, it took me 2:00 to get home from 85th & Aurora. At 2 pm.

For a purportedly “Green” city, there sure are some “not green” practices. Ride Shares and Car shares are putting more vehicles on the road instead of reducing them. I’ve told this before but I travel for a living and ask any hotel van driver will tell you that the airport, any airport, has gotten to be a madhouse because of Car to Go or Uber. Not only do car shares clog up the streets but the take up precious parking spaces downtown. Empty (a block of them lined up in front of Starbucks on 1st Ave).

No, it’s not your imagination. It’s really real!

Holy crap (septic repair, so I feel the phrase is warranted). Sewers are not to be messed around with. Get yourself a better guy — stat. I highly recommend Tyler with Green Planet Plumbing. Straight-up, totally ethical guy, knows his stuff, reliable, has no patience for deadbeats. I’m not affiliated with him in any way but he did a major project for us last summer and I have ZERO complaints.

I think she is referring to the bus lane cheaters at the west end of the eastbound lanes. The on ramp from Admiral/Avalon is a bus only lane until after the Delridge traffic ramp/lane has joined for 4th lane eastbound. Everyday I see people hopping into the bus-only lane at the west end of the eastbound bridge. Its clearly marked with big red letters bus only. And routinely ignored by many. Same think on the viaduct, everyday there is at least 1 driver, during my commute, who drives all the way down the bus lane.

    >Unless you are using an unlicensed contractor

No, he is licensed and has a fairly high rating on Google, but we all know online ratings can be manipulated. This is why I am asking here and on the /r/SeattleWA subreddit, word of mouth trumps (possibly) fake reviews any day.

I do know that life happens, and his excuse is that he is going through a divorce, but it’s pretty clear that he’s on meth, and the two may not be mutually exclusive. The other day he left his laborer here to go get his “lights” to work in the dark, after showing up at 8PM after promising me he’s be here at noon the latest. He showed back up with a single drop light, and I have a drop light and massive construction flood lamps, but he didn’t bother to ask. He then left again to get ‘his tools’ to do the work he determined needed to be done, and it turned out those tools consisted of a single reciprocating saw, something I also have. Absurd. Not only did he not ask if I had that stuff, but this guy shows up at a job site with no tools to do everything that potentially needs to get done? That’s just crazy. That was just before his no-call no-show two days later.

I’ll make a separate review here when the job is done, but I’m not even sure yet that I’m going to have him finish the job. I know he’ll probably be cheapest, and he does know his sh*t, but I really think it’s his own sh*t that he needs to get together himself.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding angelescrest, but isn’t the third lane from the left (eastbound) open for half of the length of the bridge, before it becomes the bus lane? I don’t understand why people who use that open lane are called cheaters. They aren’t cheating, they are using an open lane. As I’ve seen, its usually people merging from Delridge or onto the 99 onramp). I’m not talking about stopping in the lane when it suddenly becomes restricted, that’s not ok, but why is it cheating to drive in an open, legal, lane?

For the past 12 years I have bike-commuted from the Admiral area to SouthPark on the bike paths along Harbor Ave and West Marginal Way and have seen dozens of rabbits daily, mostly in the AM hours (5:30-6:00ish).
Sadly 4 of them have died when they ran directly into my path.
As you know, rabbits don’t run in a straight-line to evade their predators, instead they zig-zag unpredictably utilizing their quickness and agility to help keep from getting captured.
One rainy morning one was trying to ‘get away from me’ when all-of-a-sudden it turned into my path so I swerved to avoid it, lost traction and slid straight into a tree, one of its lower branches striking me in the lower chest which broke under my weight and momentum fracturing a rib and leaving about a 10″ scrape across my torso that just barely broke the skin.
At that point I had to make a tough decision to NOT try to avoid them in the future as they aren’t responsible for my welfare, won’t come to my assistance if I have a crash while trying to avoid it, and won’t pay my bills if I get hurt bad enough and can’t work.
Each time it broke my heart and made me cry that I killed on of God’s creatures. Each time I removed its body from the trail, placed it in the growth nearby and said a prayer for it.
During these years I have noticed their numbers have greatly increased, and like so many here, am seeing them in our neighborhoods with greater frequency.
Now when I’m approaching one I will growl loudly with the hopes of driving it away sooner and with more urgency of wanting to avoid me.

Hi Everyone, I need your help!

I desperately need to replace a septic guy who never shows up when he promises he will, drinks beer while he and his partner work (which is never more than 45 minutes at a time), parks his truck on the lawn, puts out cigarettes on the patio, and always wants cash on the spot. He’s left the job half done, and he was a no-call no-show today. Our tank is about to overflow again, and it’s already been pumped 3 times in the past couple of weeks.

I’m also looking for recommended deck builders. I have a bid from someone suggested here in an older thread, and I hoping to get a couple more bids.

    Thanks so much!

I think there has been a shift in traffic patterns since Lander closed to build the overpass. My working theory is that the disruption is primarily due to Port of Seattle trucks, who no longer have their usual routes/shortcuts with the Lander closure, and are reworking their approach to mobility in the area. Seems like there have been more trucks coming up to the Spokane Street Viaduct right before the exit to First Ave S., which creates a lot of the bottlenecks each morning over the high rise.
It also seems like people are naturally slowing down heading on the rise of the bridge Eastbound due to that big shiny thing in the sky, as once you hit the crest it tends to open up as you head downward. Your mileage may vary.

I think it’s just people, but I don’t know. To get to UW by 9:30, I’m leaving at 7:30–because everything just gets worse as 9:00 a.m. approaches. I did notice that many of the trucks from the docks either wait until they’re over 4th, or have trouble moving into the left/I5 northbound lane, and that slows everything down. And every day, there are cheaters, who are darting in the bus lane, cutting into long-waiting lines, etc.

I see lots of people merging in late or after the double-white line at the east-end of the Spokane Street Luxury Pothole Collection err…Viaduct. That could cause more congestion than is proportional to our population/driver growth.

I old lab caught a rabbit in our backyard. He was very proud of himself and was preparing to have a light snack of hasenpffer. Alas, I had to take it away because I didn’t want to wash gut off my deck. I was pretty impressed, though! He’s 11 and was fast enough to catch a rabbit?! He had the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. He probbly would’ve shared with me, too, because I’m his best friend next to my daughter.

I know this has been asked, answered, and argued many times before but here I go. Does it seem like traffic on the bridge is worse than usual, surprisingly so? It’s at all hours of the day and both lanes Eastbound. I go up to Spokane/Columbian Way all the time and that right lane that used to clear up after 1st Ave exist is backed up to I-5 even at 9 or 10am. Just in general the number of cars on the bridge throughout the morning that direction seems far larger and we don’t even have school on now. What will happen in a month? I know we have more people in W. Seattle now, obviously, but has something else changed?
