Here’s what I keep wondering when I see someone talking on the phone, in their hand, while driving.

Do they disagree with the law?
Do they agree with the law but don’t think it applies to them?

If you drive and talk on a hand held phone, would you be willing to share why you think it’s ok in spite of all the accident statistics? I’m not being snarky, I really am curious.

What a MAJOR disappointment my partner, best friend and I experienced tonight. We used the grubhub app to find something to have ordered in as we were enjoying a fire in the living room and didn’t want to go out. We were delighted to see that Kokora’s showed up on the list and decided to order from there. We ordered 3 Gyro Platters (Includes “Greek” fries, pita and salad), babaganoush and 2 orders of Baklava. We were estimated to receive our order at 1925. At approximately 1915 we were notified via text that the order was pushed back to 1949, and again at 1945 we were notified that the order was now estimated to be delivered at 2010. The food showed up at 2000, the delivery woman was apologetic for the time and explained there was confusion in the restaurant regarding online orders. So we gladly accepted the food and sat down to eat. Upon opening the styrofoam containers, we found that none of the Gyro Platters contained any salad and it was full of rock hard french fries and some gyro meat with a few pieces of pita. The babaganoush was contained in a 2oz souffle cup (think togo salad dressing container) and it wasn’t even full (that cost $3.00), but a full container of pita bread to go along with it. The Baklava was dry, covered in nutella (I realize food is open to interpretation) and had a long black hair in between the layers of phyllo dough. I made the decision to call and provide feedback and upon doing so was met with an attitude and no sort of customer resolution, I was told that “Our online menu doesn’t match our in hour menu” (which is a lie because I’ve eaten in the restaurant before) and “You can come and pick up salads tomorrow”–The problem here is that, not only was the food almost an hour late, it was incomplete and there was no plausible resolution offered in the moment. I feel that this restaurant should not participate in an mobile application if they can’t meet the demand of the app or be able to produce their food to the standard for which they are known. My partner, friend and I are angry at spending $90 on food that wasn’t good, was cold and had hair in it. We will not be patronizing their establishment again.

You’re welcome Mike. We’re all in this same crazy mess together, it’s how we deal with it and one-another that makes us who we are.

This morning when I rode by I was able to confirm the entire site James occupied was well tended to, however since 7:30ish last night someone had strewn the contents of the plastic garbage bag all over the place. However the vacuum was no where to be seen.

The site still looks better than it could have, but not as good as it did.

My bike commute to/from work includes the trails that run along Harbor Ave and West Marginal Way (WMW).
For several months “James” has been living along the WMW trail where it curves away from the road to circle around/behind a tractor-trailer parking lot.
In the beginning we would waive and say hello as I passed when he was ‘home’ or near-by. Eventually I stopped to chat, found out a some of his needs and would occasionally drop-off a few things to augment his life.  In return he would give me some ‘wine’ he made from fruit he collected in the area, which was actually pretty good!!
Last Friday I bought a stack of chocolate-chip cookies from a fund-raiser so stopped and gave him a couple on my way home, in parting I said “I’ll see you Monday” to which James replied “No you won’t, I’m heading out on Monday and won’t be around by the time you pass through in the evening. (My morning ride has be going by there before 6am while he was still asleep).
Sure enough, he and 98% of his belongings were gone last night, and much to my surprise, and enjoyment, the area was well cleaned and all that I could see was one full garbage bag and the remnants of an old vacuum cleaner.
It appears James did a bang-up job in cleaning-up after himself, not leaving a big mess for others to have to take care of.
So this is a shout-out to James, wherever he may have landed, that I appreciate his integrity and commitment in taking care of ‘our space’ that he called home for a short while.
We read about and see the evidence of so many homeless and not-homeless who don’t clean-up after themselves, and this was one situation where the lazy route could have easily been taken, but instead a good man did the right thing.

    Thank you James!!

We are planning to re-locate to West Seattle (from CA) & I am trying to research my school options (remotely – which is challenging)

I would really love some feedback about the school options & process..

Here is our situation: We will be moving to a home in the Arbor Heights Attendance Area. We will have a daughter starting 2nd grade, and a younger daughter a few years away from starting school.

I have a number of questions and would appreciate any feedback on any of them!! I should mention our priorities in a school are of course educational opportunities and strong academics, but even moreso a comfortable, welcoming environment/culture, where are daughters can make good friends, get involved with activities, and feel safe and part of the community

1 – I’m wondering if there are any West Seattle resources to link up with parents & learn more about first hand experiences with the schools?

2 – Thoughts about the AH/Denny/Sealth track? (vs trying to get into a Choice or Option school in the north part of West Seattle?)

3 – Our home is equally close to Gatewood. What are the chances of getting into Gatewood as a choice school in 2nd grade? What do people think about Gatewood vs Arbor Heights? Madison vs Denny?

4 – What are the chances of getting into Pathfinder k-8 in 2nd grade as an option school? Is this a desirable option in West Seattle? What is the reputation?

5 – What about the high schools? Thoughts about Sealth vs West Seattle? Are there big differences between the 2?

6 – Do a lot of West Seattle families opt for private schools? Or are the reputation of the public school options fairly good?

I know this is a lot of questions! Any feedback about any of them is much appreciated! And Again if anyone has resource ideas where I can find some parents to talk to about the school options to help inform our decision about how to proceed.

    THANK YOU!

    Hello!

My family is planning to re-locate to West Seattle (from California) & I am trying to research my school options (remotely – which is challenging)

I would really love some feedback about the school options & process..

Here is our situation: We will be moving to a home in the Arbor Heights Attendance Area. We will have a daughter starting 2nd grade, and a younger daughter a few years away from starting school.

2 – Do Arbor Heights families tend to continue on to Denny & Sealth? Or go elsewhere? It seems like there are a lot of discrepancies between AH & the other Denny feeder schools (in terms of ratings, etc). I’m wondering how this affects the middle & high school experience & choices, if at all?

3 – Our home is equally close to Gatewood. What are the chances of getting into Gatewood as a choice school in 2nd grade? What do people think about Gatewood vs Arbor Heights? Madison vs Denny?

4 – What are the chances of getting into Pathfinder k-8 in 2nd grade as an option school? Is this a desirable option in West Seattle? What is the reputation?

5 – What about the high schools? Thoughts about Sealth vs West Seattle? Are there big differences between the 2? I’m thinking about this now b/c I want to make Elementary & Middle school choices that will ease the transition into High School (already have friends, natural transition, etc)

Looking to hire a dog wrangler at our West Seattle location who is highly motivated, with a desire to learn new skills and techniques! The ideal candidate must love both dogs and people, and be comfortable and confident interacting with both.
    Qualifications:
Have a positive attitude and *extreme* patience
Must be willing to get dirty
    Have good customer service skills
No previous dog experience necessary, but helpful!
Attention to detail, and being highly organized is a must
Be able to follow direction and work as a team, yet also to work independently when needed
Have a flexible schedule, early morning, midday and evening shifts are all needed
Must be able to be on your feet for multiple hours, be able to lift up to 40 or 50 pounds, and be physically fit enough to stay active in a very high energy environment
Must be at least 18 years old

We are looking for for both part-time (20 to 25 hours/week) and full time (35-40 hours/week). The position starts at $11 per hour plus tips. Wage plus tips will equal a minimum of $13 per hour worked in the pay period (though we usually average more!)
We also offer a chance to work one overnight shift per week. Yes, that means sleeping with the pups! Please state in your email whether you are willing to cover one or not.
PLEASE do not walk in or call, the pups can get very excited during our busier times! Email your resume and cover letter explaining why you think you’d be a good fit here at Stella Ruffingtons to info@stellaruffington.com. Please include any other jobs or obligations you may have at the moment, and what (if any) days/shifts you are not available.

I tried the Cafe con Leche one a few years ago and was disappointed. PCC’s is really good, and the version they dish up at Metropolitan is pretty good, too. My guess is that Husky Deli might make one also, but I haven’t tried it.
Paseo’s Caribbean-style sandwiches are totally awesome, but I don’t think of them as Cubans. Perhaps they have a Cuban on their menu and I just haven’t explored that end of their menu?

Please email at the address below so I can be sure to keep everyone in the loop.

This is what was posted before.

My hope is that women who love to read will also love to come and discuss a variety of books. I look forward to deep discussions while having fun. General focus will be on reading books that relate to contemporary issues.

Most animals show great variation in color, even without considering seasonal shedding/molting and interbreeding. Color is rarely diagnostic, but rather conformation, size, and as Curate pointed out – the “cotton” tails! Now, if they were black & white piebald or the size of pot-belly pigs, I’d wonder if they were domestic breeds. But the distinction between gray, soft gray, buff, and even brown is probably not significant.
