The Curious Mrs. Savage by John Patrick is based in 1973 where a wealthy and eccentric widow, Mrs. Ethel P. Savage is committed to a New England sanatorium by her three children, all desperate to get their hand on her money.

During her stay at the sanatorium she befriends her fellow patients and helps them come to terms with the traumas the have experienced.
