Ed Murray!

I am pretty certain that there has rarely been such a crucially important local primary election that has had so many people so bewildered and confused about who the candidates are and where the many myriad candidates actually stand on the issues that are important to them. There are so many important and pressing issues facing the city of Seattle that really need to be proactively addressed in a thoughtful smart way to keep our city moving forward positively.

One thing that is crystal clear: currently Mike McGinn’s negative rating appears to be registering even lower than Greg Nickels was in 2009. Because of the low turnout that is expected in this mid-summer election, this is one time where you can get involved in an election and really make a difference.

It is almost certain that whoever faces incumbent McGinn in the general election is likely to be our next mayor. YOUR VOTE IN THE PRIMARY FOR ED MURRAY IS YOUR GREATEST OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE FUTURE OF SEATTLE.

I have been following this race closely since the spring. After the surprising events that unfolded in the 2009 campaign, I felt that this time around it was important that I know as much as I could about who might be the best candidate to possibly face Mike McGinn in the general election. After consulting with a large number of friends who are very knowledgeable about the local political scene (ok- I will call at least some of them “policy wonks”), I have come to believe very strongly that Ed Murray is the best candidate to face Mike McGinn or anybody else in this crowded field who might advance through the primary to the general election.

What I have heard over and over again as I have talked to people is that Ed Murray is a someone who gets big things done, that he is thoughtful, deliberate, skillful in planning and in recruiting allies from all sides of the political spectrum. There is a very serious danger that with so many people running against incumbent McGinn that a vote cast for any candidate who is less than stellar will offset Ed Murray’s chances of a primary win and we would once again inexplicably and tragically end up with a decision between “worse” and “worst”.

The biggest news in the past week is the endorsement of the Seattle Times. The text of their editorial endorsement does a great job of giving you a lot more insight and perspective on why it is that Ed Murray is the best person to support for Mayor. Editorial: The Times recommends Ed Murray as the clear choice for mayor of Seattle.

Please join me the evening of Wednesday, July 31st to celebrate and help support Ed Murray’s campaign in the final week of the primary. And if you can’t join me — please do what you can donation-wise and talk to your friends and neighbors about Ed Murray.

Time is of the essence — you are strongly encouraged to forward this invitation on to anybody who you think might possibly attend the event on Wednesday, July 31st and/ or someone who can’t attend the event but who might be a potential donor to Ed Murray’s campaign. I am also looking for friends who might want to be listed with me as a co-sponsor of this event in the more official event flyer that gets produced in the very near future. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in being listed with me or if you can volunteer to help me with the event itself on the night of the 31sr. (Being a co-sponsor has no financial obligation, it is simply a public statement of support for Ed Murray’s candidacy.)
