Join a conversation on October 528th with Port of Seattle’s Port Commissioner candidates, Norman Sigler and Ryan Calkins (Position 1), Stephanie Bowman and Hamdi Mohamed (Position 3), and Toshiko Hasegawa and Peter Steinbrueck (Position 4) as they discuss their views on pressing climate change and environmental justice issues facing Seattle. As a valued community leader and Environmental Justice partner, we want to ensure you have a seat at the virtual table – and the opportunity to ask your questions to the future leaders of the Port of Seattle.

Twenty years ago, the Duwamish River, Seattle’s only river, was designated as a federal Superfund site due to its troubling legacy of pollution challenges. During the Trump administration, the Port of Seattle was among those lobbying the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to gut Duwamish River cleanup efforts and allow more dangerous chemicals to remain. Seemingly in response to this advocacy, the EPA has now made public a proposal to weaken cleanup efforts. The Oct. 28 port commissioners’ forum will create critical space for candidates to weigh in on proposed changes to the Duwamish River cleanup efforts, among other timely issues of interest to the local community, which shoulders the burden of Seattle’s environmental injustices and is directly impacted by the Port’s operations.

This event is presented by Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition and Seattle Parks Foundation but we want your voice to be heard too!
