Join us! Hear stories from our local communities – stories of personal journeys, family life, of memorable people from old and new places.

Friday, July 19th at the White Center Community Cultural Center’s Hillborn Room.
6:00 pm: Light meal from presenter’s culture/heritage
6:30 pm: Storytelling program – followed by Q/A segment

Our Special Guest this month:
Sili Savusa – “TO SAMOA’S DAUGHTER – COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING”

Growing up in a strong island community, Sili shares her family’s strong ties on how “community organizing” became a meaningful component in her life as well as career. She shares how the Samoan/Pacific Islander
culture & life in the US has shaped her focus on the issues of race & social justice, particularly in the education system & advocacy work for children & families of color.

BIO:
Exec. Director – White Center Community Development Association. A former Highline School Board member who
helped pen the Districts’ Equity Policy has an extensive background in organizing around education. Sili’s
advocacy work includes the: API Advisory Committee & ANAPISI Steering at So. Sea. Comm. Coll., Governor’s Commission on Closing the Education Opportunity Gap, API Education Think Tank & Pacific Islander Education Task Force. Sili is also a resource trainer for the Peoples Institute for Survival & Beyond (based in New Orleans which helps her maintain an analysis on racism and its impact on education). She is also an integral resource to the education system to help schools better align with communities and families & ultimately improve student outcomes. Sili is also the proud mother of three children.
